I have restored many computers but they always had the restore cd. I want to restore my brothers old computer so I can sell it for him on ebay. But its a dell inspiron 1100 with no restore cds. It has xp but you can even restore it like some new ones by clicking f11 or whatever.
How can I completely restore the computer?

Find someone who has a cd for xp, and use the product code from your brother's comp.

or use a linux boot cd like knoppix to wipe the hardrive with gparted.
Then the people who buy it can install whatever operating system they want.

You can go to Belarc.com and download their software. It will give you a complete inventory of everything in your computer, including all your product keys.

If it's legit XP installation on the pc, i think you can get a XP CD from Dell. have you tried their customer support?

I have a Inspiron 6000 and a inspiron 1520 this definitly works all you have to do is hit ctrl-f11 from a cold boot, just tap those two at the same time at just as the Dell logo pop's up. it will restore your computer to the condition, the day you got it from them. good luck

Yes, that will work as long as you haven't changed your partitions. When I first got my Inspiron 6000, I used partition magic to divide the drive into 3 partitions. Doing that erases the hidden partition that dell puts on your hard drive which contains all of the re-installation data.

thanks I tried it but it didnt work. Maybe the 1100 is much older then your computers. I know he bought this in 2002. It had 256 ram in it but I bought 512 more real cheap and up it. Figuring it would work faster which it did and sell for a little more.
Anyway thanks for the help!

I don't know that it is so much a mater of what OS you are running. It is more of a mater of what the manufacturer set up when then sent it to you. I can only vouch that it works on my wife's Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop
