Report: Clemens, McNamee had lengthy conversation Friday night (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3183738)
While it is uncertain who initiated the call, a source told New York Newsday the conversation lasted about an hour and could be described as "emotional."
For Clemens sake, he better not have said anything to him. He could have been taping the entire phone call and release the tape to further damage him.
from the same story
The paper also reported that the verbal back-and-forth between Clemens and McNamee has drawn the attention of Jeff Novitzky, an IRS special agent responsible for the indictment of Barry Bonds in November on felony charges of perjury and obstruction of justice.
A person familiar with the situation told Newsday on Saturday that Novitzky has turned his focus toward Clemens in the wake of the exchanges between Clemens and McNamee.
Now he REALLY better have kept his mouth shut. Could have been a set up.

Working with his son's, college work and camps! His lawyers already laid the groundwork for missing, acting as if they had NO CLUE if he could make it "fit" his schedule only a few days from now. You know, most people have no clue what big events they have to do two weeks out. Weddings and stuff like it always fill in the off-season with less then two weeks notice you know. Why would they have any clue about two weeks from now? That's crazy talk.

Did you pay attention to what he was talking about? He was commenting on how Lincoln, Roosevelt, Washington and other presidents from the past have names that sound presidential and the names like Obama, Huckabee and Guliani dont sound presidential at all. Clinton does sound presidential so there is no need to bring her up.
I love how the right loves to say that liberals take offense to everything but it is the right that looks so into things and never seems to understand anything.
I think Bush, Oreilly and the rest of those idiots have fooled so many of you people into thinking that the left runs everything and that the poor old right is being slandered at all times. Its the opposite but hey some of us arent sheep and follow the heard. Some of actually listen and decide for ourselves.

That Clemens has one hell of a lawyer. He could sell a plate of ribs to a woman wearing white gloves as the old saying goes. Smooth as silk, and makes you want to believe him. Clemens was well coached also. He's obviously been preparing for this for a while. They accomplished what they wanted to, got some to believe them and in others planted a seed of doubt. The seeds of doubt alone will smooth his induction to the HOF. There's no physical evidence here, so its just one guys word against another. Choose who you want to believe. A recent ESPN poll has over 80% believing McNamee, now we'll see if Roger has put a dent in that.
He made some good arguments. Last night on 60 minutes he said "How come I didn't break down like those other guys did?" Thats true, he didn't get the knee (patella) problems, foot plantar, muscles tearing off bone, stuff like that. He had some elbow and groin problems, but that happens to any pitcher his age. Mussina has had the same injuries recently and nobody would ever accuse his pencil arms of being on the juice. That still doesn't mean he never used steroids, but it sounds like he didn't abuse them like other guys (Giambi/Bonds) did.
I still think he did steroids, but I also think as we get further and further from the Mitchell Report and more and more names leak out over time, the view of steroids will likely change. We'll see that so many players were doing them to one degree or another it will be harder to argue they were cheating, even though I still think steroids are cheating. But if half the league was doing stuff at one time or another, its a pretty level playing field. They're going to have to hold their noses and vote for Clemens and Bonds, but I hope the voters don't do it on the 1st (or 2nd) ballot as a protest against this whole era.

I was just reading about the taped conversation and saw this explanation :
Under state law in New York and Texas, only one party has to give consent for a phone conversation to be taped. In this case, it was Clemens, who was at home.
So if I call somebody, and tape them, I count as giving my consent ?
Of course I consented to it because I taped it.
Did they leave something out of the story ?
Did a 3rd party record the conversation with Clemens approval ?

Can we retire this phrase in 2008?
Only if you retire.... from life.
Good article by Gene Wojciechowski. I particularly liked this part:
The Clemens logic: "Hard work" is Clemens' explanation for experiencing a pitching renaissance after leaving the Boston Red Sox after the 1996 season and signing with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Reality: I talked to a baseball executive whose team had considered signing Clemens after that 1996 season. Five different scouts were dispatched to assess what the then-34-year-old Clemens had left. The consensus: He was all but done.
Clemens' resurgence mirrors the approximate time he began working closely with McNamee. It also generally corresponds to the years McNamee said he injected Clemens with steroids (1998) and steroids and human growth hormone (2000, 2001). Clemens won the American League Cy Young in 1997, 1998 and 2001. And by the way, Clemens did say he let McNamee inject him with lidocaine for lower back pain. Shocker that this BDC fella I been readin up on would be tryin to defend Clemens. What a homer. I hope the Giants make the SuperBowl so Boston can piss all over NY again. Just like we did with this Mitchell Report. Boston Red Sox George Mitchell baby.

Bill Simmons says it better than I ever could:
That brings us to '96, the final season of Clemens' aforementioned four-year deal. Chunky, disinterested and increasingly vocal about Boston's failure to offer him a contract extension, the Rocket turned on the jets once the team fell out of playoff contention, going 6-2 over his last 10 starts and striking out 20 Tigers during a mid-September game at Detroit. Classic Clemens, through and through. You could always count on him when it mattered least (and yes, I'm getting bitter just remembering this whole thing). (http://proxy.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?id=1206543)
I think the only thing he refined that year was his palette.

So far there is reasonable doubt in Roger Clemens taking any HGH or Steroids or any other illegal performance enhancing drugs. '

They don't want to fuck up the ongoing Justice Dept investigation. So they're going to run all their questions by them first. Chances are the DOJ requested this. Also, the Justice Dept might ADD a few questions for the House Comittee to ask Clemens to get him to say stuff under oath. Clemens will know all this going in from his lawyers.

Kennedy: Member Of '04 Red Sox Used PEDs (http://www.waswatching.com/archives/2008/01/kennedy_member.html)
On the drive home tonight, from work, I caught the very last minutes of The Show on X-Radio (MLB Home Plate) with Rob Dibble and Kevin Kennedy.
At that time, Kevin Kennedy was addressing a caller who had some thoughts on the Mitchell Report.
I was pretty surprised at what Kennedy had to say there. In wanting to make a point about the Mitchell Report not being the all-inclusive bible of naming PED users, Kevin Kennedy said that a current colleague of his, who was with the Boston Red Sox in 2004, told him that he (the colleague) witnessed, for a fact, a member of the '04 Red Sox injecting himself in the buttocks with a needle full of PEDs. Kennedy said that the user is no longer a member of the Red Sox - but, he was a player on the team that won the ring in 2004. As per Kennedy, his colleague said that the "user" was giving a demo (to the "colleague") on how to do the injection.
It's pretty interesting that Kennedy would throw this out there, in the last few minutes of a radio broadcast. I wonder if anyone will pick up on it? Too bad George Mitchell missed this one.
Just another one of a zillion more I'm sure we'll hear as the years go by.
This should be kind of easy to figure out. Who's a former RedSox from the 2004 roster (http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/BOS/2004.shtml)who's now working for Fox Sports?
Who's a former RedSox from the 2004 roster (http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/BOS/2004.shtml)who's now working for Fox Sports?

Clemens hires Clinton's attorney
Posted: Friday January 18, 2008 05:36AM ET
Roger Clemens has bolstered his legal team, hiring a powerhouse Washington lawyer, Lanny A. Breuer, who represented former President Bill Clinton during his impeachment hearings as well as numerous corporations that were the subject of Congressional investigations. (http://fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/34211)
Clinton lied about a blow job and got off scot-free. Maybe this guy can do the same thing for Clemens who lied about steroids.
So Clemen's agent, Randy Hendricks released a 42-page report with a statistical analysis of his career. Of course the claim is that plenty of people pitch well into their 40's. Of course there is an issue....
Jim Bunning, the Hall of Fame pitcher-turned-politician, wasn't swayed by the 42-page analysis of Roger Clemens' career, noting it was factually incorrect and did little to show that Clemens' longevity wasn't a result of performance-enhancing drugs.
Bunning, Bob Gibson, Robin Roberts, Walter Johnson and Mordecai Brown were erroneously included in a list of Cooperstown inductees who pitched into their 40s. The five pitchers were a combined 20-39 with a 4.99 ERA in their last season, which all came at 39; none had a winning record. (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/2008-01-30-bunning-clemens_N.htm)
So you are going to have to deal with Congress....so of course you lie to Jim Bunning! This is just madness!

Clemens admits he used steroids.
I love how Clemens says that he "doesn't give a rat's ass about the Hall of Fame" yet he has a CUSTOMIZED 300 WIN LOGO BEHIND HIM. The 300 mark was on his mind even before he achieved it. Remember when he had the 300-win glove before he actually won his 300th?
This guy has all the bullshit capabilities of an elected official.

Sources: Pettitte, Radomski, Knoblauch won't testify (http://proxy.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3241579)
Pettite could have sunk Roger if he testified against him. Looks like Roger will walk away from this one without a perjury charge, at least for now.

So now Clemens has hired a big time PR firm, and he's going to do interviews and deny he did any steroids or HGH.
What a clueless self deluded clod.
