Alright I have AVI's and want to burn them to DVD to be watched on my TV. What programs do you guys personally use? Everyone one I get either takes 4 hours to convert or fails. If it does work Nero won't burn it. I was using AoA to convert and burn but was not happy with my results. So, Let me know what you guys use and how it works out for you.

I was having the same kind of trouble. After taking a few hours to "convert" the avi, I was unable to burn it to a DVD.

I decided to get myself a Christmas present. I ordered one of these (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000N254LU)

It is a dvd player that will play just about any kind of video file you can throw at it. Either burn your avi's to cd or dvd as plain data (no conversion needed) and it will read them. Or (and this is the good part) just put them on a flash drive and plug it into the players usb port and it will play them from there. It will even play things from an external hard drive (as long as it is FAT format)

It does have a couple of drawbacks, The usb interface is version 1.1 so it is slow (the fast forawrd and reverse are only 2x). The file names only recognize 7 characters so you have to name them wisely. I did have trouble with a 4gig thumbdrive not being recognized by the player but my 1 gig thumb drive works fine.

Burning my avi's to DVD has allowed me to get about 13 hours of stuff onto one disc. If you have a video camera that uses an SD or similar card, you can use a usb card reader and play the videos straight thru this player.

that is pretty pimp, rich. I just got the DVD Burner for christmas so I am trying to figure it out. I am trying My DVD Maker v5.4 right now. The first one I burnt was good and the second the audio was off. Both AVI's were fine. I think everyone must have problems with hit or miss burnt DVD's b.c no one else has any ideas.

I was happy to get this one because I needed to get a new DVD player anyway. At about $60, it was a pretty good deal. And although I can't vouch for it, this player is supposed to "upconvert" regular dvds to a picture similar to HD.

I have just started playing around with software called 'Any Video Converter v. 2.5.2' - I downloaded it from CNet/Download.com and it is FREE.

I can't vouch for all of the functions yet, but so far so good. It worked quickly when converting a DVD movie to AVI, and Divx to AVI. It is also supposed to be able to convert AVI, Divx, etc. into DVD NTSC or PAL format, but I haven't tried yet.

For a free product it has worked GREAT so far.

I gave up on converting and ended up buying a DVD player with the Divx logo.
Wal-Mart carries a Magnavox DVD player that plays virtually any file without conversion for around $35.

Works great! I have a bunch of British TV shows burned to discs. As soon as you insert the DVD into the player, a menu comes up showing a list of the contents on that particular disc, then I just scroll the list and pick the episode I want.
