Here is a website (http://www.markstoryphotography.com/tns.php) that has portraits of 18 people who have lived in 3 centuries.

Looking at these people, I would have to think long and hard about whether I would want to live that long.

Wow, a collection of shriveled apple-head dolls.

With all the lovely cancer rampant in my family, I'll be shocked if I see 60.

Bingo.

Although the beauty of living to be 100 is by the time you get there, you think you're 12.

I don't want to live to be 100, but I do want to live long enough to see Kieth Richards turn 100.

my great grandmother was born in 1895 and died in 2000, at the age od 104.

I would like to live over 100, but only if I had the faculties she had at 104. She was 100% of sound mind, walked till 103 then got around in a manual wheelchair.

She lived in the same house from 1955 till the day she died, and was full of knowledge and wisdom, she taught me to beware of the Jews, and to always listen to Ron and Fez.

Well I know i would NOT want to live forever, or even to 80 for that matter.

At least in our current environment, if you live to be 100, you have a somewhat decent chance of outliving your spouse, your children and all of your closest friends. No thanks.

But you could date 70 year old widows and be considered a "playa".

My grandfather is 94 years old and in near perfect health, both mentally and physically, yet he's miserable. He's outlived his wife and every one of his closest friends. Sure he has his kids, grandkids, and great grandchildren, but he's so bored and lonely all day when we're all working. He says the senior citizen center depresses him because everyone there is so sick and "old" so he spends most of his days at the library or the mall where he can walk laps because he has a ton of energy and no other way to expend it.

I have absolutely no desire to be in such a position.

I can't imagine any hell worse than dying slowly from the age of retirement to 100. My money is on a heart attack at 55, but bird flu at 35 is a close second.

absolutely yes

i'd live to 200 if possible

prefarably i would like to live forever, hell hook my brain up to a robot or whatever you have to and i'll do it

i no longer believe in religion or god and therefore do not believe that there is this heaven i will go to after i die

i am very selfish and dont care if i outlive family, spouses, kids, etc. as long as i am in a somewhat normal state of mind i'll be fine

Aging is like a cruel joke. For your first 18 years you look forward so much to being an adult and gaining independence and freedom. Fast forward 55 years and you need someone else to change your diaper.

It's even worse than being a child. In addition to losing independence, your looks are gone, and your health goes all to shit. Not to mention you'll be dead soon.

No, screw that. Massive coronary at 65.:bye:

Nope.

My dad is 79 and he was once superman and the smartest person in the world, and could fix anything. Bell Telephone paid for his education and he has a masters degree in electronic engineering.

Now he can't get out of bed without taking a pill for pain. He can barely turn on a computer, and has the worst memory ever.

Nope, living to 100 is out of the question for me. I would much rather get taken out by a hitman with two .22s to the back of the head when I'm not looking.

you only need one. The 22 is the assasins weapon of choice cause it has enough power to enter the skull and not enough to exit. All you need is one shot, and the bullet will bounce around off the inner skull and just shred your brain.

I have absolutely no desire to be in such a position.

Living forever was a great concept until I saw A.I. (not allen iverson), but spielberg's movie, "artifical intelligence". even though that robot was a robot, he "outlived" virtually every living organism on earth. talk about solitude. talk about depressing....

but one reason why centarians are still around, is their ability to cope and transition to survive. They are indeed a tough, adaptable breed. My father is 96 soon to be 97. Being part of a struggling, immigrant family at the turn of the 20th century gave him and his brothers an early lesson in survival that he adopted for the rest of his life.

He started everything late. Including raising a large family. As a result, there was more of a grandfather/grandson, cultural gap in my upbringing. My grandfather started late also. If he were alive toay, he would be 149 years old. That's vampirish.

My father, who still walks 2 miles a day, can still give you the Oriole/Nationals starting 9, and has an acute sense of what is relevant today. He is a great caretaker for his younger wife who is not well. His children and grandchildren are his lifeline. Another reason to have kids, by the way. He retired in 1967 by the way.

He tells me that he is ready to check out anytime. But being a very competitive SOB his whole life, he takes pride in the fact that he has is still around, vital, and has won the opportunity to steal a look of the future. To watch his grandchildren evolve into young adults, where his contemporaries only knew their grandkids as children is a bonus that he does not take for granted. He is looking forward to the NFL playoffs, and the Austrailian open next week. I aksed him what was the key ot his happiness and longevity. He had no actual sage advice, but rather answers that we all know. Take care of yourself, do the right thing, and enjoy the little things. Trite? Yes. But actually the Dali Llama would agree with him. Key ingredient: enthusiasm.

My point is if you are in good health and surrounded by loved ones at the end of your life, you have won and it ain't so bad. If you are alone, immobile, with a feeding tube
in your stomach, then get me a gun.......
