On my TV, I have one HDMI input, 2 Component inputs, 2 AV Inputs and 1 DVI input.
Now, I'm running into issues now that I have 3 systems.
HDMI: Cable Box
Component 1: PS3
Component 2: 360
AV1: Wii
AV2: VCR/DVD
DVI: Free
I'd like to move the Wii to a component slot, then the 360 to the DVI slot. I've read online that it will not work with the PS3 if I use the HDMI->DVI connector.
Is DVI better than or equal to Component?
Also, should I have the PS3 on HDMI and the Cable box on Component? Does cable broadcast in a high enough resolution to warrant a HDMI cable? Or am I better off hooking the PS3 up to that for BluRay?

What size and resolution is your television?
On most televisions, the picture quality between component, HDMI, and DVI would be very small. DVI should be better than component (it's supposed to be lossless), but most of the time, if there is any quality difference, it's not very noticeable.

Component and DVI are pretty similar (they both do 1080i) and you probably won't notice much of a difference. I'd put the PS3 on HDMI, XBox on DVI, and Cable and Wii on component. You can get an HDMI-DVI adapter or a cable online for a reasonable price. DVI doesn't carry sound, so you'll have to run audio cables with it as well.

I have a similar situation. I have 2 HDMI slots on my tube and I have the HD cable converter and the PS3 hooked up to them. XBOX 360 is hooked up to the component slot and I am ready to throw the regular DVD player in the trash - hooray for Blu Ray!
For a short time I would alternate between the HDMI for XBOX or PS3 - which ever one I was playing at that time. I really couldnt tell any difference on the XBOX but PS3 = more gooder!

You can buy an HDMI switcher, its what my parents have, they have one HDMI plug on their TV and plug the switcher into that and can hook up to 4 devices. I believe they got it off Amazon and no quality is lost.
