How can you overlook Grindhouse?
And, why oh why do so many people think Michael Clayton was an amazing movie? It was formulaic and unbelievable. Are you kidding me? The plot is "lawyers who represent a giant corporation learn that what they are doing is wrong and change for the better." Hasn't hollywood made this movie before? Hell, it's not much different from 3:10 to Yuma. Same concept.
As for the "bad guy" corporation, they did everything short of pasting the headquarreters with a giant curled mustache and placing devil horns on the large corporate law firm.
I swear that Michael Clayton was the product of a contest to see who could string together the most cliches and then sell the movie as high art.
Ratattouille is easily one of the top 3 movies of the year. No Country for Old Men is in that limited group, and I have resevred a space for there Will be Blood for whenever it is released in my backwater.

I originally missed Grindhouse being on your list. I live in S.C., and the double feature grindhouse experience just did not exist here when i was young. When I saw Rodriguez and Tarantino's feature, I was blown away. It was about the best movie-going experience that I have enjoyed in a long time -- and I LOVE going to the movies.
Also, I did not mean to come off that passionate about my thoughts on Michael Clayton. I just for the life of me cannot understand why it has been getting the good reviews that it has received. No new ground was plowed, and the bad guys were stereotypical bad guys. I am an attorney by trade, and this cloak and dagger hit man stuff coming from a desperate in house corporate counsel just was hogwash. The movie was about as subtle as a kick in the groin.
At any rate, I always look forward to you calling into Ron and Fez, accepting their good-natured ribbings, and talking about movies. Keep up the good work.
And, thanks.

While I agree with a lot of your choices, I am curious about one film I saw this year. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0483719/ The Living in the Home of the Dead or The Living and the Dead, whichever you prefer. I found this to be a magnificent achievement in... yadda yadda blah blah blah... I liked it. Have you seen it? What are your thoughts, Mr O?

I understand how you feel about Michael Clayton.....
but when I see something like that I can well imagine that with the correct set of circumstances it is very possible....
The corporate counsel has clearly been pushing herself beyond her capabilities her entire life with a laundry list of mental problems that sent her over the line. Just because someone has had years and years of education does not prevent mental illness from taking hold. That was the case with the other attorney. My problem with Michael Clayton is that the ending was a little too pat.
The idea of shady men doing dirty deeds for corporate clients.....how you view that depends on how you view the world. My view of the world is that it is full of evil men driven by greed, capable of anything.

What do people not get about 'Talk to Me'. That movie was damn near perfect. Do you even bother watching the movies or do you just rank them based on their one sheets? I mean Sweeny Todd...stop it
