My Nana was from Naples, and she used to tell us how in Naples at the stroke of midnight women would throw their old clothes and anything else they wanted to forget out the window (pictures of ex boyfriends/husbands). Which I always thought was hilarious. That must be quite a scene.
Do you have any traditions you always do?

When I was little my mom had me sit on the porch and beat pots and pans with a metal spoon while my dad fired his shotgun.
I moved to TX and found a much more respectable tradition that I still do. Black-eyed peas and tamales.

Thats actually a european restaurant tradition you'll see in a lot of French or Italian places over here. The kitchen staff will come out at the stroke of midnight and bang pots and pans to chase away the old year.

And here all this time I thought it was because we were white trash. Go figure.
