I know this isnt national news but some Assemblywoman from Westchester County, NY is looking out for everyone. This time its to regulate volume in Movie theaters, nice to see that out of control taxes here in probably the highest taxed county in the country is not on her priority list

Galef said that while at a recent movie at the All Westchester Saw Mill Multiplex in Hawthorne, she noticed how much louder the commercials and previews for upcoming films were than the actual film itself.

"This is not good for the eardrums, and it doesn't need to be this loud," she said.

Obviously she's never been to a rock concert.

We don't need to hear about every time some no name worthless politician somewhere comes up with some stupid idea that has no chance of passing. This is a non-story.

Maybe, maybe not. It's good to remember these dummies when they do crap like this now, and not when it's too late after they've been elected to a state or national office.

I can see it now. That jackass politician will have a press conference on News 12 (The local newschannel here in Westchester) parading some kid who has an ear ache and using him to further her agenda. Lexus Liberalism is alive and well in the suburbs

Did it?

And even if it did, can you honestly tell the difference between something with trans fat and something without or do you actually want the heart disease?

A lot of the fast food joints dont use it anymore. That being said if someone stuffs their face with McDonalds 5 times a week, they are more prone to get heart disease with or without the transfat

People should stop paying attention to the really crazy bad ideas that someone who doesn't represent them and lives far away has that also has no chance of passing and instead worry about the less crazy bad ideas that their own representatives have and actually do get away with.

Local politicians addressing local issues? How dare they?!

Why are commercials louder than the movies? Movies are loud already, as they should be. But why the fuck should the commercials be louder? I don't see a problem with limiting them to the same decibal level as the movies just because some advertising study shows they're harder to ignore when they're louder than the thing you actually want to watch.

But more importantly, why are there commercials in movie theaters now anyway? How much are you people paying for a ticket now? $15? And you have to sit through how many commercials before even the trailers start?

And, in DC one company bought up all the theaters but one indy and got rid of matine' prices - just because they could - and at the same time they were jacking up the regular prices from $7 to 9. Monopolies in the nation's capital? NOOOOOO! Fuck it! We're consumer suckers. We need a fucking nanny to put some restrictions on shit like this because we'll put up with anything big corporations want to do to fuck us. Remember when the "nation's past-time" was affordable for a middle class dad to take his kids to? Remember when sports stadiums were named for sports greats instead of Minute Maid and 3COM, whatever the fuck that company is? Fact is, the movie theater industry has been fucking us over for years and we aren't going to do shit to "adjust" the market to stop them from doing anything they want. Ever. So some local official might get them to turn down the volume on the commercials that shouldn't even be on in the first place in her community? What's the problem?

Excuse me for voicing an opinion, thats why we have forums right? In any case is this the best this hack of a politician has? Like there arent real issues like out of control property taxes. If you think Jersey is bad, Westchester is just as bad or even worse, but back to my point. Shes trying to tell a business how to run their operations. Heres something for her, she can go to another theater or just stay home. Its not her job to be a parent to the taxpayers. Besides who the fuck is complaining about loud volumes in movie theaters. Maybe she can legislate to ban huge tubs of popcorn and large sodas while shes at it.

It's much ado about nothing. Besides, she's complaining about the commercials being louder than the movie. Do you really feel like you're missing out on something if the commercials aren't too loud? God forbid we don't get our daily allotment of commercials slammed in our faces.

stupid non-issue.

I don't think the issue here is what the woman is trying to change. The issue for me is arrogant politicians that want to ban things that aren't "good for us" because they know better than the rest of the adults in this country. It doesn't take a village to raise a child. It takes parents. I don't need a new mom. Already got one.
