Hot tub Gaskill lives here at the NJ shore I see/talk to him all the time in clubs; he had a weird writing thing going for a while but for me I prefer seeing his monster drumming.
For me, other monsters include...
Danny Carey [Tool, and get Adrian Belew's 'side one']
Simon Phillips [The Who; Jeff Beck; zillion sessions; friggin machine a la Peart]
Pat Mastellotto [Mr Mister [ouch!] and now a bunch of indy stuff and the group-that - wouldnt-die King Crimson]
Zakk Starkey [Ringo's kid. If you've seen The Who [just the words The Who...] post Jones/Phillips you know what I mean.]
Mike Portnoy [Dream Theatre]
Bill Reiflin [now with REM, did killer work on Ministry KMFDM and other industrial stuff I love]

Mike, Jerry truly is a monster drummer. I admire his work quite a bit. If you see him, say "hey" for me. King's X fan from way back. I even reviewed 2 of their albums back when I was writing. I'm gonna guess his religious background has him busy with things beyond music. I love to see a Jersey boy make good.

HA!
I saw the title of this thread and IMMEDIATELY was going to post the one and only Bun. He is the shiz.
HONORABLE MENTION:
Tony Thompson (Chic, Bowie, Power Station)
Phil Collins. He can swing. Really lyrical drumming.
And... NO JOKE... I love Rick Allen from Def Lep. I don't like "busy" drummers. Neil Peart, in my opinion, is forever playing the wrong thing. I don't dig him.
Between losing the arm and working with Mutt Lange, Rick Allen really has mastered the art of playing only what the song calls for. Bravo.
OH... and how could I forget, Mario Calire?!! He played the tastiest drum track ever. "One Headlight" by The Wallflowers. Perfection! Tiny fills. Huge pocket. And he never once hits a cymbal. A+.
edit: wow.. I just noticed that Hottub named Rick Allen up there. We are definitely on the same page. Kick ass.

Hal Blaine
The guy has played on some of the greatest songs ever (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hal_Blaine). "Be My Baby" alone is enough to make him a legend.

Raymond Herrera from Fear Factory. I dont know alot about drums, so I dont even know if he is that good, but his double bass shit was always nasty

Ian Paice of Deep Purple is one of the most underrated drummers ever.

if you dig double bass drumming look into Carmine Appice, of Vanilla Fudge,Cactus,Beck Bogart Appice, he started the Double Bass drum kit, tried to pass it on to John Bonham when Led Zep opened for the Vanilla Fudge, but Jimmy Page said it took up to much room on stage, they sell double drum pedals now so you dont need Two bass drums, but it was great times when i was 17 and all the guys in the neighborhood who had bands put our drum kits together with different colors just to make that one Double Bass Drum kit.:smoke::king:

yea fuck that. They always seem to sound so much better with a second bass drum then a double pedal.
