I wouldn't worry TOO much. Even if they got this thing through (INCREDIBLY doubtful...I'd say almost impossible), it'd be either vetoed or struck down by the S.C. immediately.

Everyone sign the petition.

There has been tremendous lobbying attempts to get this crap through congress. While I doubt that it would happen, given the current political climate of extraordinary conservatism and the general anti women and anti gay attitudes of the religious yahoos who support crap like this, it's important to try to nip it in the bud.

And DOOGIE - The ERA wanted to extend women's rights to make them conform to the constitutional provision of "equal protection." In this manner employers couldn't get away with paying woman 2/3 of what they pay men for doing the exact same job. It is this extension of rights that was defeated. (One more state was needed to ratify the ammendment) The current proposition is an attempt to curtail the rights of gays, something that this administration would like to accomplish. The movement was started by Reagan and extended through the Bush Sr. years to date.

Jeeez, I agree with HordeKing....I think EVERYONE should sign that petition. God, we got people blowing up buildings and some lobbyists gotta pick on people like me, who are just as American as the rest of you to try and make our lives more tough than they already are. The ERA was killed by sexist bullshit and fears. The USA is still very gender biased and extremely homophobic. We have a long way to go to achieve equality.

The proposed constitutional amendment against homosexual rights will most likely be supported by the same people who defeated the ERA ammendment. Plus it will have more supporters because more people are openly anti-gay. The women haters tend not to be as vocal.

I'm not kidding, this is scary shit.
