I'm traveling to Hong Kong for business on January 7th for about 10 days. I have never been there before and I haven't been able to find anyone in my company that has either. I'll have a few days of down time and would like to explore the area and try to make the most of my time there.

Any of my fellow .net'rs been there? Any tips/suggestions/warnings, etc?

I went there about 7 years ago, when Continental was starting a nonstop flight from Newark , for $600 roundtrip ( a tip..do a lot of walking around the plane,, its 15 hrs) . Had not reason to go,,just...went...
There are two major sites ; Kowloon & Hong King itself.
Kowloon , which is north of Hong Kong Bay itself, has a lot of electronics and other shopping sites ( however, you'll find that you can probably get better prices in the states. Like Tokyo, they have all the newest electronics, but at a steep price) . There is a big mall just above the harbour ,on southwest side of Kowloon..,some bargains and interesting shopping.Be sure to take the subway to the Hong Kong side ( Their subway is one loooonng tube , very futuristic.). One more must see ii Kowloon, but a little weird. Go to the Peninsula Hotel on the southern edge of Kowloon. Go to the rooftop bar/disco they have there .When you come out of the elevator, go to the right( I think) and go into the BATHROOM.. I know, but they have these free standing futuristic urinals, set behind a curtain, and right in front of a full glass wall. I don't know how to describe it, but to be pissing while looking out about 30 stories is ..well, an experience
On the Hong Kong side , the major tourist place is a ride up the mountain itself on a tram that goes up to a observatory on the top of a mountain,, From there, you can look over all of Hong Kong and Kowloon.A great view, and I went at night, when all of the buildings are lit up.There are a few good shops in a small mall there as well. On the south side of the island is the big market, where you can get all kinds of souveniers and good cheap. You take a bus there..Once place I didnt go, but wish I did was the south side of the island, where there is like a fishing village economy, with floating restaraunts and apparently great seafood .

Just a few suggestions..Hope it helped
