but it only has these as the imputs DVI-D, 15-pin D-sub
will i have to get a specific box from my cable company or will hd be avl just from a regular tuner (dvd player/tuner with hd outputs)?

I believe the cable companies will be taking back you old boxes and giving you an HD box.

Most cable companies HD boxes have a DVI output. You'll hjave to check with them. If not you can always get an HDMI to DVI converter.

Who watches TV anymore?
If I wasn't a big Yankees fan, I wouldn't even own one.

How big is the screen? Seventy five bucks is pretty cheap, if it's a decent size.

The switch has nothing to do with cable, the digital switchover that is coming in a couple of years concerns over the air programing, as in stuff you get with an antenna.
