Hey all..I have just been made the Adjunct at my American Legion. This means that I am in charge of recording minutes of the meeting. I am also allowed to record the meeting, but they use an old tape recorder. I want to use my laptop, and a mic to record them into mp3's and store in a file on my computer. What is a good program to use that can record from a laptop?? Any advice would be much appreciated.
Audacity is free and simple to use.

well, i am trying a separate device to record stuff, and then just copy files to a pc:
I just ordered this based on reviews, its $200, so its not cheap but the recording quality from the reviews seem excellent. records on sdcards in many forms (wav, mp3 of various different bitrates), runs on batteries.

ok that is a long url, so if it doesnt work try searching on the site for the Zoom H2. now, if u get the minidisco newsletter like I do, there is a coupon code to save 10% off purchases for christmas, the code is XMAS5.
it does look funny but there was a site i found once where a guy saved recordings from this device and a bunch of others and it sounded very nice.

I use audiograbber to get all the audio for what I put up on highsocietyradio.net works great, and it's free.

The Zoom H2 linked above rules for the money. It's pro-level [can record at 24bit/96kHz]; uses regular batteries so you can replace if you run low instead of recharge, is USB powered, you can hook it up to the computer or use it stand alone; records right to SD. I have the H2 and the MicroTrack by M-Audio, but thats a hundred more.
Movie people and musicians use these all the time for field recording.
The H2 is the best bang for your buck.

Oh yeah I'm 99% sure the H2 comes with some bundled software for recording/editing on computer. Cubase LE perhaps.
