Early November 2006...
We sat at home disappointed in the war, social security, homeland security, and right infringement.. The elections were coming up. Republicans were scurrying like cockroaches under the scrutiny of public opinion. Change was in the air my friends.. REAL DAMN CHANGE!!!!1! All we had to do was knock just a few Republicans out of the senate, and the power for all that is good will swing to the way of truth and justice.
November 9th 2006, HOORAY Change happens!! :clap::clap:
Democrats rule the senate giving America hope for the future. No more will our madman in the Whitehouse rule us unchecked...Things are going to be great! Right?
Uh, what happened.
New boss same as the old boss. Shit is fucking worse now. My house is worth 80k less, my retirement is worth 50k less, and my dollar is worth 25% less, while gas costs 25% more! What is the fucking point in voting for Hillary? Obama? McCain? So I can feel good about voting for my choice red herring issue, abortion, gay marriage, church?
I can't buy the two party system any more. I need a real candidate to vote for, who is going to put us on track.
Who do you guys like?

here is the problem as i see it. imho
pledge your heart, soul, $, and first born to one party, and you are a sheep because you follow them blindly.
belong to a party, but share views with the other= you get shit on as a traitor or "closet (enter opposite party here)"
thats why swing voters are the most important and the target demographic for all politicians. they already know the sheep will follow them unless they really fuck up.
here's the caviat to that: if every politician was an independant, nothing would get accomplished (not like anything does nowadays, anyway).
as retarted as it is, you need 2 parties. adding a 3rd party only opens up doors for bribes and shady deals.

Why exactly is that? Given people more chooses is never a bad thing and why would their be more corruption?

Well, look at Parliament in England. The two most powerful parties, Labour and Conservative, are always pulling deals with the Liberal Democrats Party and the Democratic Unionist Party who are resigned to cutting these deals to get specific laws passed but know that in doing so, they will never be able to be a serious force in England, and will always be kept 3rd or 4th, depending on the number of Conservatives or Labour Party politicians running for office.

Yeah.
But you know what, local politics is pretty sweet. Where I am there are basically no parties in local races. And if you start to care about your local committees and councils you can really have an impact, because most people don't care.
Fuck national. Go local!

Yeah locals. You never know what party they are in until you look for their name on the voting machine. You'd be surprised whos a D and who is an R down here.

Totally. And by and large it doesn't matter. They're your neighbors, friends, and other people who really don't want to see a wal-mart built around the corner. There's no solid line dividing groups of people, the guy who you work with on education issues may be the guy who disagrees with you about putting up traffic lights ... and it gets all jumbled up depending on the issue. It's so much more human than picking sides and then rationalizing why you're on that side for the rest of your life.
