I'm going to hit a ripe ol' 40 this year.. Fucker.

Over the last two years I have felt the tingles of older age setting in. It all started when I noticed it was easier to bend waaaay over to do something like check tire pressure instead of kneeling.

I'm also having to write shit down that I would never had to 15 years ago.. I can remember as a kid, being able to quote beer prices from any store for 5 miles and now I cant remeber whats in my checking account without taking a peek online.

Growing old is sucking balls.. The sex is worse, the hangovers are worse and the smells are worse. .. To top it off, the goddamn economy is tearing a new asshole in my finances.

We nouveaux old, don't even get to say we bought a house when the payments were semi reasonable. We soon to be olders are going to get the shaft as we pick up the bits and pieces of health care, global warming, and defunct retirement packages.

While our parents grew old snorting in the glory of life during the 80's, we are left scrambling between two incomes to have one day off a weekend.

Thanks a lot bitches..

I say we start 'Medicare and Social Security 2' right now and let everyone in 'Medicare and Social Security 1' suck a thick dick in 2008 and beyond..:devil2:

no joke, you're one of the coolest people to read on this board. you sound like you're ageing more gracefully than you think, and I hope you never lose that mob attitude that has gotten you this far.

As for the economy, don't worry about it. I hear at 10,000 posts you get $10,000.

the bigwigs on wall street are tearing you and the avg investor a new asshole. last week when the fed announced a 1/4 point cut the market went down 300 points. all the news stories and cnbc said the reason " majority of investors were unhappy with just the 1/4 point and were looking for more " So where I work I asked approx 10 co-workers who have their money in our companies 401k/mutual fund plan if any of them did anything with their investments. If you totaled up the monies for each of the co-workers it would have easily been over a million bucks. Again that's just 10 out of 10 employees i asked

Of course nobody touched their money, no fund transfers, no stock sales. So who are the " majority of investors "?

Let's see how the bonuses go on Wall Street this year, probably record levels...

I've got a few years till I hit 40, but I just started noticing a few gray hairs on the sides. And I must admit, it bugs the shit outta me. Other than that, I don't notice any changes. If anything, I'm WAYYYYY happier than I was when I was in my 20's. I wouldn't trade places with me back then for anything.

Enjoy those prostate exams MC! One thing you'll learn, Fezzie isn't all wrong . . . . . . .

Yeah, the dirty bastards.
I'm by no means a wallstreet smarty pants. I only know one rule, 'buy low' 'sell high'.

With that in mind, how many times have we all seen an average joe sell when a stock drops, only to buy a stock when it seems to be flying high with no end in sight.

This is peticularly true in 401k. I can distinctly remember people buying stocks that went up "11% in the LAST quarter!!".

With a personal story, my father panicked when his retirement dropped 200k in a few months two years ago or so. I think it was during the 'dot bomb'. He did not have tech stocks, but his stocks got hit anyway. When it got more to bear, he ate his losses and put money in bonds, or some other 'safe' shit. Eventually, the market calmed down over the next year and a half, and the stocks he sold came back to the market value with some decent % growth. ... but his money was still in 'safe' shit. Now because the market is higher, he is thinking about putting some of that safe money back into the market, essentially, selling low and buying high to the tune of 300k. He is not a rich guy. He has refinanced his home and lives beyond his means. That one swing in the market, and poor decision on his part killed almost half of his retirement.

The point is, and kinda lines up with FUNKMANS opinion, is that every stock he sold at that low point, someone else had the foresight to buy. Every stock he is buying now, someone else has the forsight to sell.. My dad is the average investor and he is prey for the not so average investor. Those who can truly swing the market through their 'opinions' depend on us to panic in order to buy low then sell high..

...Man, there sure are a lot of pretty lights around us while we walk in the investment carnival :smoke:

Holy, how the fuck did you know..

I was just about to post a "Countdown until I get a finger up my ass thread..". My wife said, 'ya'know, we really out to go in for a checkup'. I can't remember my own cell number, but I can remember clear as a bell that the doc said, 'your only 39?.. Good, cus then I don't have to do that thing to you, until you are 40..' Apparently, 'That thing' is good when accompanied by a pointer finger gesture to the sky.

I really should name this thread now.

that's funny and reminds me of a jewish male doctor i had when I was in my late 30's. he phrased it " oh I see you're not 40 yet, that means i don't have to check your prostate. that's good news for you but it's also good news for me " it made me laugh

so when I turned 40 I caught a break. the jewish male doctor left the office i was going to only to be replaced by an attractive female doctor. now i get it checked every two weeks

actually she checked it once so far

Had it done twice now. Having a guy put his finger in your ass is not as bad as you might think. It's quick and necessary. I have to go under the ass-scope next month though and I am really not looking forward to that.

I'm not 40 yet, but when I went in for a physical a couple of years ago, and the doctor said "You're not at an age where we do regular prostate checks, but it's not a bad idea to check anyway." Oof. It's quite uncomfortable, but at least it's quick.

42 here. Just pinching off funds into the Iowa 529's for two squirts who, if it buries me, will finish college. Here's a Motrin to y'all. Now, get back to work!

First off, judging by your board name, I hope you don't perform prostate exams for a living. Second, to start a thread, click on the forum you want to start a thread in and click this button: http://www.ronfez.net/forums/images/skins/rf_blue/buttons/newthread.gif

What makes someone grown up? World experience? Jobs? Meeting people? Number of friends you've had died? Number of people you've slept with? It's different for everyone.

Currently, I have two jobs, go to college, I pay for my own credit card and cell phone bills. But I still like eating ice cream for breakfast. Am I grown up?

I come from a broken home in Harlem. I can't name one time my parents have ever showed they loved or cared about each other. Yet I can name all the times they've fought and had to get the blunt end of their shit. I had a great childhood I guess. Tons of friends, happy times. But is that something that makes me more immature cause I tried to stay out of the fighting and be with friends, or more mature cause I understood the real world and the hell the being a parent is? Dunno.

Do I feel older? Well yeah definitely. I'm no longer the straight-edge, thigh fucking, rebellious, "spikes his hair like the devil horns", x's on the hands teenager I used to be.

I honestly don't know if I've "grown up" or not. I still like being immature and laughing at stupid shit and being an asshole. But whose to say that's not mature? There's been no real experience where I've gone "oh my, I've grown up". If there is any, it's probably when I go to a local concert, and see people I went to high school with still going to these things, working part-time, and never wanna leave Westchester. Meanwhile, I've gone to two different universities, been to 14 states (this year alone), bought two cars, had numerous jobs, blah blah blah.

So am I grown up? I guess in some ways. Do I still want to act like a kid and not worry about the sad, awful world we live in, and just enjoy my life? Yes.

My first one made me feel like I was Andy Dufresne and my doctor was Boggs.
