Ok, so I picked up the second hardcover last week and I gotta say it was amazing. So well written and such amazing art. I'm really sorry that that's the end of Millar and Hitch on that book.
And I was close, but I didn't figure out the identity of the traitor.

Hitch's art is unbelievable, but he does like a panel a day, to get a book from him takes forever, but the FF run that they have set is already 3 issues in or so, in the can, so that's a def plus.

Both "volumes" of the Ultimates were great, but the second one was really, really incredible. I think it was the best "team" story since the first 12 issues of The Authority, and it was probably better than even that.

Yeah, I know, which is why I couldn't be bothered reading it month to month. Or most floppies anymore. I would rather sit and read a run of the title in a single sitting and get a more fulfilling read, but the cliffhangers of the individual issues of the serial are weakened.

Well, volume 3 has started, so prepare to be underwhelmed.

Its the equivalent of a michaels bay film, joe mad's art is incredible, but i just cant remember liking a story of the book he drew.

that is the one thing i miss, the 4 week tease between issues, but sometimes i'll just read one issue of a tpb and wait a day or so. But those times are rare, i just tear through the whole graphic novel.

Some of the X-Men books he was on were decent.

I agree. I think his first work on the X-Men was the Astonishing X-Men in the Age of Apocalypse storyline, and I liked his art there, especially his designs for some of the characters.

yeah, but it just seemed that you went along because of the fact it was the x-books. Like with hitch and millar I had genuine interest in the characters in the ultimates, storylines, plots, etc. I'm actually reallly liking the look of the new x-force. Def a kick ass idea as well.

Another strength of vol 2 that 1 didn't have is they didn't need to do introductions, so it's 1 13 issue storyline with multiple plots as opposed to multiple stories with a finite stopping point in the middle

I couldn't imagine reading this series month to month...hell, even reading it in two trades kind of sucked. Thank God the HC is about to come out.
Both volumes are pretty some of the few comics I've read that just felt like reading an amazing movie right in front of me. Pretty much just those, the first two Authority series (the first of which Hitch drew) and Preacher.

I actually just finished the first run on Powers, the hardcover, and i gotta say i kind of found it a waste. Not really a needed collection, not all one storyline, kind of a waste

Well, the HC's for that series are just more for the collectors who want the series in HC. Each of the trades were broken down into specific stirylines. The Ultimates has been designed to have each arch HC-sized, whereas Powers has varied in arc size.

yeah it was a dissapointment. Not the story or the series itself, just the hardcover packaging and premise. They packaged a hardcover with a few stand alone stories that were completely out of the powres storyline, that started off the first 4 or 6 issues of the book. which just takes me outta it.

I disagree. It's an idea that's been used way too often in the last 15 years. Forming a "proactive"/black ops variation of a well-established team has been done by both DC and Marvel for quite awhile, whether its Force Works (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Force_Works), Justice League Elite (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justice_League_Elite), or the first version of X-Force. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Force) This idea seems to be rolled out every 2-3 years.

I did forget it, but knew there was another JLA spin-off with a name that screamed mid-90's, we're-not-waiting-for-the-bad-guys, schtick.

X-Force has only ever not been shit when it was X-Statix. Otherwise it's a horrible concept with Liefeld's taint all over it.

I buy everything through my bookstore, and bookstores typically get the trades after the comic shops do.

Yeah, when I checked it, Amazon.com said Dec 26. It was a pleasant surprise to find it at my comic shoppe.
