right out of my savings account. Yesterday, at 6:54 pm, someone made a cash with drawl right out of my fucking account for 1,000 dollars. My wallet wasn't stolen or anything, I don't know how this happened. I'm hoping this was some clerical error, or I'm closing my account. I don't know, I might close it anyways. I'm fucking pissed at Citibank right now, I could kill someone.

Instead of closing your account, call them first. Try and figure it out. If there's no recourse, then close out your account.

Yeah, I called them before I posted this. They gave me a credit and are launching an 'investigation', whatever the fuck that means. In 7-10 days I get to find out if I can keep the credit. These motherfuckers handed out my money to someone that wasn't me, they better fucking fix it.

Was it a withdrawl from a teller in the bank or an ATM withdrawl?

I think from a teller, the guy I talked to wasn't very helpful. I'm going into a branch on Tuesday to pick up my new bank card, I'm going to ask more questions then. I'm way to pissed right now to be able to talk to someone without screaming at them.

I'm just curious if your bank would have that info online. When I check my accounts online, I can tell whether or not it was a teller transaction or one out of an ATM.

That's bullshit. There should be no way that they cancel the credit to you, whether they can figure out what happened or not.
I would get the credit and leave, don't even waste time to try and let them make amends.
EDIT* I would also check all of your other accounts. With Citibank or not.

Would a bank be open at 7pm?

On Friday? Yes. And the withdrawl happened just before 7 PM, and they were probably about to close.

This happened to us last year right around the holidays. Apparently what happens is someone can manufacture a counterfeit card, with it's own pin number and everything, but when the transaction goes down the money came out of our account. Scarily enough, this happens more than anyone knows. I was shocked the bank actually admitted it. The made it right by putting the money back into my account within 5 min. of me calling.
Since then I get alerts on my cell phone when ANY transaction goes down, and I have to enter my approval.
Call the bank. They should make this right with no bullshit.

Good point. There is most likely a $1000 cap on with drawl from an ATMs, which would explain why they didn't clean out my savings.

Ok, I'm not anywhere near as pissed off as I was an hour ago, if a mod wants to move this thread or if anyone wants to make jokes at my expense, please feel free. In the mean time, I've decided to start drinking.

About a year and a half ago I got a notice in the mail from Chase saying that a transfer for some odd amount over $7,000 didn't go through and they were charging me a fee. I didn't authorize any transfer. I even have a password on my account for such things. They refunded the fee but when I asked how this could have happened the answer I kept getting from the CSRs on the phone AND at the bank was, "Why do you care? It didn't go through and you didn't lose any money. Don't worry about it."
Fuck that shit. There is WAY to much competition between banks for anybody to stick with a shitty bank. They often rely on the fact that it's a pain in the ass to open a new account and to up date on-line payment info, etc.

This same thing happened to me about six months ago. I went to withdraw money from my checking account and saw I was missing about $800 from it. I checked my account when I got to work and it showed two withdrawals of $400 each on the day before in NYC. I wasn't even in the city. I called my bank and they launched an investigation also. They credited me back the $800 instantly and I had to get a temporary debit card at the bank. The bank manager sat down with me and told me that they have seen this lately where people were putting something at the ATMs which was grabbing everyones card info and then they were crashing the accounts out. The bank ultimately concluded that it was theft and officially notified me. I haven't had a problem since.

first, most ATMs i have been to have a $300 a day limit. second, whenever i go to the bank or an ATM there are about 7 cameras on me from several different angles. can't they go and look at the video?

Considering how much banks nickel and dime you, I'm seriously surprised they haven't added a fee for Cash Back when you pay with a debit card.

if it was teller, like someone said there should be cameras (even atms too....) also, dont the tellers at your bank ask for id for withdrawls? at my bank, whenever you deal with a new teller whether it be deposit or withdrawl, you have to show id

I just recently found an envelope containing 1000 in cash. At that moment, it was very easy to figure out who unknowingly dropped it. I could've pocketed it but... I returned it.
I have mixed feelings about it now.
That has nothing to do with this thread.
Goodnight.

my wife worked at a bank for many years.
it happens, key stroke errors, goes to a wrong account, etc.
all of the work gets sent to the processign facility for verification on a nightly basis.
you'll find out soon.
i wouldnt flip too much until you hear otherwise.
fyi... the cap on atm w/d on a daily basis is $500. you can call to have that raised/lowered, but the default is $500.
to me it sounds like a keystroke error, just me .02
