Starring Xzibit?????? huh?

UK, December 6, 2007 - A gangster rapper and a foul-mouthed Scottish comedian are hardly the first people who spring to mind when you think of The X-Files, but in one of this year's strangest casting decisions, Xzibit and Billy Connolly have signed up to star in a new celluloid incarnation of the series.

Xzibit will partner up with Amanda Peet to play a pair of FBI agents opposite David Duchovny's Mulder and Gillian Anderson's Scully. It's not clear at this point what role Connolly has, though his involvement will doubtless revolve around some form of comic relief.

Story-wise, the plot is being kept as secure as an alien locked down in Area 51, although the film will be a stand-alone feature rather than a direct sequel to either the TV series or the 1998 pic.



Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz have written the script, with Carter set to begin directing later this month for a July release.

This movie is a few years late, I'm not sure how well it will do. Of course, I'll go see it.

They say it will be a stand-alone film but I hope they bring back some of the elements of the show. It's too bad "The Lone Gunmen" won't be there.

Xzibit partnered with Amanda Peet? Is that some kind of practical joke to annoy the fans?

I'm personally psyched for this movie. Since the X-Files was on during my college years, I never watched it that often. I recently bought the entire series box set and I'm really enjoying it. Very cool and funny. I think a stand alone movie should be the way to go... as long as it's good.

Not sure, but I'd bet there were aliens and jedis in the audience.

The second big-screen spinoff of the paranormal TV adventure will be called "The X-Files: I Want to Believe," Chris Carter, the series' creator and the movie's director and co-writer, told The Associated Press.

The title is a familiar phrase for fans of the series that starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI agents chasing after aliens and supernatural happenings. "I Want to Believe" was the slogan on a poster Duchovny's UFO-obsessed agent Fox Mulder had hanging in the cluttered basement office where he and Anderson's Dana Scully worked.

"It's a natural title," Carter said in a telephone interview Tuesday during a break from editing the film. "It's a story that involves the difficulties in mediating faith and science. 'I Want to Believe.' It really does suggest Mulder's struggle with his faith."

"I Want to Believe" comes 10 years after the first film and six years after the finale of the series, whose opening credits for much of its nine-year run featured the catch-phrase "the truth is out there.

Due in theaters July 25, the movie will not deal with aliens or the intricate mythology about interaction between humans and extraterrestrials that the show built up over the years, Carter said.

Instead, it casts Mulder and Scully into a stand-alone, earth-bound story aimed at both serious "X-Files" fans and newcomers, he said.

It's funny watching that first clip from inside the theater, hearing all the nerds shreak in joy seeing Mulder and Scully....

But, I know how they feel.. I didnt pay much attention to this movie, thinking Mulder and Scully wouldnt even be in it. Seeing that they are, I am definitely gonna see it.

Aside from Chris Carter of course, Duchovny IS the Xfiles.

I was never a huge X-Files fan (I missed a whole bunch of seasons right before and right after the first movie) but I always enjoyed it. I'll probably check this out as it looks pretty good from the trailer. Plus I've always liked Amanda Peet even when she's in a craptacular movie.

I was a big fan until Mulder left the show, but I'm probably going to wait and see what people say before going to see it. It seems like the missed the boat for doing another movie a while back and doing a stand alone 'episode' doesn't seem like a great reason to return. It would like doing a Sopranos movie in 2012 that's about a heist Tony planned between season 4 and 5. Even if it is the best heist movie of all time people would rather see a movie about what happens after the blackout in the final episode.
