Madonna and John Mellencamp lead the 2008 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame class, as they will enter the Hall alongside Leonard Cohen, The Ventures, the Dave Clark Five, Blues harmonica player Little Walter and "The Sound of Philadelphia" songwriting/production team of Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff.
The most notable omission from the '08 class is the Beastie Boys, who were eligible for the first time.

Mellencamp should be banned for releasing that "This is our country" song.

Beastie Boys deserved to go in with this class. But I don't think they'll ever go in, acutally.

why not? they started as punk, which is a derivative of rock. then they went rap and had the best selling rap record ever. especially since the HoF is about commercial success above all else, they'll get in.

That Little Walter sold a lot of records. And the Ventures, I think they're third or fourth on the list of albums sold. :wink:

They are rapidly running out of people/groups to nominate. Maybe they should do it every 4 years, like the Olympics, instead.

All the west coast punk bands are becoming eligble. They should have gone with Black Flag, or the Circle Jerks, or Dead Kennedeys. Considering there is still music being made that is directly influenced by those bands.

Little Walter! :thumbup:
He was probably the first to amplify the harp and put it into overdrive. He was busy cuttin' heads with Muddy's band right out of his adolesence. The most admired and imitated harp player ever.

harp? that there was a harmonica.
rock and roll is all about a good harmonica:down:
RrRHoF is more about band who've lead up to or away from actual rock and roll

You're right about the rock n' roll: examp. Brownsville Station's "Smoking in the Boys Room" had good harmonica;
or as it could more accurately be called "Mississippi Saxaphone".
