Victoria is awesome.
Very very pretty, very clean. The problem is employment. I don't think there are many jobs up there. I looked when I was searching for an editorial gig on the west coast. Now I'm freelancing, so i guess I could if I wanted to. If you're freelancing it'd be perfect.

Once, I mistakenly told my conservative republican father that if Hillary Clinton was ever our President I was moving to another country. His response was "If you really feel that way, then I will make you the same offer I make everybody else who says they will leave the country if _X_ becomes our President. If you promise to renounce your citizenship and never come back, I'll fucking pay for it." I've never thought or said anything remotely similar again.

Good call...I always hate that threat.

I can't tell you how many people I know that said that phrase with X=Bush and still live here.

Maybe it's just a stupid phrase that people have always used in vain?

It would be interesting to start an "I'll move to Canada if X" list and see how long it goes.

Also notice, nobody is offering to move to Iceland. Silly rabbits, I hear Reykjavik is the bomb!

Iceland is beautiful, and Reykjavik is amazing. Picture this: Every single girl there has blonde hair blue eyes and is model gorgeous. Heres the thing-- since they all look like that, they consider themselves average and bland! One of the best weekends I ever had.

That's what I heard in the Navy, but they also said to watch out for the guys. They said the guys were bad-ass and hated woman stealing Americans.

Nice.

Chris the Cop whored it up nasty in Iceland and us liberals don't even have the decency to go to Canada.

Yeah, there was a bit of anti-American sentiment, mostly because the only Americans they know are the serviceman stationed there. they come into town, get drunk, start fights, and screw Icelandic women. But once they see youre not like that, they warm up to you quite nicely.

It was expensive to get there, and the prices were similar to Manhattan.
But I'd definitely go again, and recommend that you do too.

True. If you try to go there for an open-ended visit with no job, they might not let you in.

Even going up to Toronto for business I learned not to say I was trying to sell products to a Canadian company. I eventually said I was there for a visit and if I was carrying samples I would say they were gifts.

They love U.S. tourists, though.

I've never been there but the Icelandic people I've met who came here for business have been very nice. But to move there, I think you would have to learn Icelandic, which even they admit is impossible.

If I were to move to Brazil, Id have to learn Portugese for sure, because so few people speak English well.

But in Iceland, at least in Reykjavic, English was quite common.

All I remember of Icelandic is "Takk" which is Thank you.

Easy Patrick, The whole Victoria Island/ Vancouver area is insanely priced... As is anywhere nice I suppose.
A wicked good climate is in the Okanagan(BC), It's a nice lil' area where orchards are in the summer, lakes don't freeze in the winter and it's freakin nice all year long.

I could suggest a place like where I live, it gets to (and I'll do this in fahrenheit) -4 at times, then tomorrow comes, a chinook rolls through and all of a sudden you're up to 59 in the middle of January.
In the summers it's a constant roll at 82 degrees, with about 7 - 10 days/ summer kicking in at about 89 - 96.
The winters are alright, the summers are prime Jeep weather.

But the wages in my city suck (which is why I work away from home), on the upside the real estate is quite cheap.
