New CD comes out in January of '08. And they just announced US tour dates (http://www.themarsvolta.com/). The tickets for the NY show are on sale now.
The first single Wax Simulacra I wasn't blown away by. But I'll wait until I can hear it in the context of an album to fully judge it.
I've very excited for the new album as I just recently got into them (the last year or so) and I think De-Loused In The Comatorium is an amazing album, while Francis The Mute is possibly one of the best albums I've ever listened to.
Oh, and yes, Gvac, I know you hate them.
I like them too. We can console each other after people come in here and berate us.

I think there's a few people here that enjoy them. I think IamPixie stood up for them once. So maybe there's three of us.

I did and then Gvac yelled at me.

We are big Mars Volta fans down here where I work. My buddy has the collection, and just listening to one single just doesn't do them justice. You have to listen to the whole thing.

No argument here. The Mars Volta is probably the only new-ish band that gets radio play (Liquid Metal doesn't count) that I'll buy music from. I was looking at my CD collection recently and I only have three CDs from the last 3 years, The Mars Volta, Mastodon, and Between the Buried and Me.

I saw The Mars Volta in concert in NYC a few years back and made out with a black girl during the show.
It was quite an experience.

They opened for SOAD at the Meadowlands a few years ago, and I think I was one of the few that were really into them. I can see how they come across as pompous to some people, but I dig the music anyway. Looking foward to this.

Man, I was already so excited to see them on Saturday, and I just got this in my email :
This is just a reminder of the schedule for this Saturday's Mars Volta show at Lupo's in RI. Mars Volta will be the only band performing and is set to go on stage shortly after 6:30 PM. They are expected to play a set lasting at least 2 1/2 hours
2.5 hour set! No opening band! I'm fucking super excited now.

Rodney Harrison thinks the Mars Volta is for faggots. Rodney Harrison thinks people should berate you, and Rodney Harrison might have to banish both of you from the United Rodney's of Harrison once Rodney Harrison is done winning the super bowl.

HBox thinks even scrawny HBox can beat Rodney Harrison's ass if Rodney Harrison couldn't take any of Rodney Harrison's HGH. HBox thinks Rodney Harrion's attitude is a remnant of some sort of childhood trauma in Rodney Harrison's life. Hbox thinks Rodney Harrison won't truly be happy until Rodney Harrison deals with Rodney Harrison's issues. HBox only wants Rodney Harrison t be happy. HBox truly thinks Rodney Harrison aint happy. Hbox thinks Rodney Harrison's use of Rodney Harrison's HGH is just fulfilling a void in Rodney Harrison. HBox hopes Rodney Harrison seeks help. HBox thinks Rodney Harrison deserves to love Rodney Harrison.

Rodney Harrison hopes HBox been workin real hard at the gym, so that HBox can run away from Rodney Harrison. Rodney Harrison is gonna eat the heart of anyone who steals Rodney Harrison's gimmick. Especially from an EAGLES FAN. HBOX IS GONNA TRY TO TALK SMACK TO RODNEY HARRISON WHEN HE LIVES IN RODNEY HARRISON'S LAND AND FIGHTS FOR RODNEY HARRISON'S ARMY? HBox better protect HBox family from Rodney Harrison

P.S. - The Mars Volta is still the gayest band since Right Said Fred. Or The Village People. Or maybe The Killers. Or My Morning Jacket.

I just watched that video that HBox linked.
It sounded like someone was playing Zeppelin, Dave Matthews, and RATM at the same time.
I can safely say this will be my last post in this thread.

I like the mars volta. I enjoy ridiculously pompous rock and roll. Over the top is always better. I am reminded of the MC5 not by sound but by the stage presense I guess.

He didn't stop for the full 2 and half hours they were on stage. It was insane.
And they are soooooo much better live than they are in that video.
Also, I enjoy that any music thread on ronfez.net usually has more posts in it from people saying "I don't like this band" than people who enjoy the music.

I can't believe I never posted about seeing them live!
Best live show I've ever seen. Two and a half hours long. Just absolutely stunning. I left there just about speechless over what I had just seen and heard. I figured they'd be good, but the music is so "emotional" live, you really get into it.
And I also didn't get my full hearing back for like 5 days. I think I need to start wearing hearing protection or something to shows.

Mars Volta fan since day 1 (about as popular a sentiment as Bon Jovi)
But seriously, I was a huge fan of ATDI, was heartbroken when they broke up. Loved The Mars Volta when they filled the void, but I completely see them as a polarizing band. Love them or hate them, very little in between. Anyone else recently catch them at Terminal 5 in NYC. They've had tough time finding a drummer that can keep up since the first one died, but this new guy is insane.

Been a fan from pretty much the beginning. Got my tix for the 20th in Philly. Anyone else going to that show?

New album comes out the end of June. I just heard the single for the first time and really dug it. It was very laid back, compared to a lot of their other stuff, though. Looking forward to this album and tour.

Nice. Can't wait. I hope to catch them this time around. I'm still kicking myself for not catching their Goliath tour seeing how much I fucking love that album.

they have been a indie band for years, just broke through because of there last album. my boy says see them live.you tube em
Animal Collective's new album is the best I've heard in quite a while. I saw them last summer live and it was like 15 minutes of intense awesomeness followed by 5 minutes of grating noise back into awesomeness and so on and so forth.

I grabbed the new one yesterday.
I'm really digging it. It's not as high energy as some of there other stuff, but it's enjoyable.
I still don't understand why the first track is silent for like, a minute and a half.
I'm liking this new album a lot. Not as much as Goliath but I absolutely LOVE that album.
Cotopaxi is such a fucking kick ass song.

I thought it was a little spotty but when it's good it is FUCKING GOOD. I had a hard time getting into it at first because I saw them open for Soundgarden last summer and they played The Whip Hand, Aegis, Dyslexicon and Molochwalker and those songs came out so awesomely HARD live. I remember after they finished Dyslexicon some woman behind me just said "HOLY FUCK." They come off softer on the album but I came around on them.

The album is described by them as a "concept" album, so I thought it was going to be super nutty. But strangely, it seems so much more tight and song oriented than any of their other albums.
I hope I get to see them live again soon.
