The Hills - What kind of crap is this?

So I flipped on MTV. And I'm watching the Hills. For what, I don't know. I've heard the names Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt and whatrever flipped around, so I caught 5 minutes of it.

So it's a typical drama show, whatever, that looks like a reality show. OK. Not my deal. So I turned it off.

As I was talking to someone, I was then told, in as many words, that The Hills is actually presented as a "real" reality show. Like, it's the Real World on Film.

I was aghast.

Anyone with a rudimentary knowledge of television production knows that there is no way, no chance, no ANYTHING that this could be ANYTHING but staged, manufactured crap.


How the hell was this illusion created? Is this the equivalent of professional wrestling for the estrogen set? I'm confused.

Heidi and Lauren get paid 25k per episode. I have only recently watched this show after flipping channels and seeing Heidi's haircut, which i am probably going to get.

Apparently it's The Hills is a spin off of Laguna Beach which was really popular for whatever reason like a year or two ago.

Well, I think it's pretty much common knowledge that this is a fully scripted show pretending to be reality; even with only a rudimentary knowledge of tv WATCHING.

It's been the brunt of many comedy shows, most notably The Soup.
(my fave was when they showed a scene with some girl saying, "and I'm like 'what the hell!!' and then I was like 'oops, where did THAT come from?' tee hee"
Joel McHale holds up a script, and deadpans, "right here..page 15"

ORRR... possibly the same chick blathering on about some crap, and Joel says "who writes this stuff?......ohhh...right....")

Theyre acting, and badly at that.

It would be interesting to see, if it were to win any awards, what category it's in,

I have no idea what "The Hills" is. I watch the TMZ show about once or twice a week (mondays and wednesdays) and wonder who this "Heidi and Spencer" couple is.
