The other day I got notice in the mail about a credit card class action suit (http://www.ccfsettlement.com/). Anyone else get this? At first I thought it was a scam but apparently it's on the up and up. Apparently there were questionable currency conversions on overseas transactions between February 1, 1996 and November 8, 2006.

Hey, count me in! I got a check a while back (granted, for less than $10) when I joined a class action lawsuit against the record industry for over-priced CDs.

I've done class-action suits against Sears, AT&T, and Royal Carribean Cruise Lines.

With all of them, I grossed =/- a cool 50 bucks credit!

I received it also.
They give you 3 options to collect. However - they all involve
past flight OVERSEAS.

I have not flown over seas in the last few years so its moot. I tossed mine.

If you have flown overseas AND used a credit card to book ..fill out the form.

I was overseas for quite a bit of time during their timeline, but didn't have a credit card at the time. I'm still going to try to cash in.

I got one too, Alice. I used my credit card in a few Caribbean Islands while on a cruise in 2003. It's only $25 but I'll take it.

Exactly. I was in Mexico in 2004 and Ireland in 2005. I'm "econo" by nature so it's not like I spent thousands of dollars. I'll take the $25.

I got one too, but I was overseas before the timeline. Would've been nice to have an extra 25 bucks but honesty is the best policy, that's what I say!

Why not just send it in and see what happens?

If you get a check and feel badly about taking it then send it to a charity.

It's not just for going overseas. If you've ever bought anything using your credit card where the store uses a currency other than dollars then you are eligible.

I got one a few years back for a suit against AIG insurance. The suit said that they were over charging their customers I took the check. Funny thing is, when I had AIG, it was the lowest one I can find.

Me too! I have NJ Manufacturer's. I'm digging it b/c they're the lowest and I get a check back at the end of the year.

Why WOULDN'T I? How many scams get sent to you via e-mail?

Trust me, the first thing I did was looked if they asked for bank info or my social security number. THEN I looked it up on the 'Net.

Only an idiot would take it at first blush.

I remember the day when my college ID number was my SS number. Maybe 20 plus years ago it didn't matter when you lost your college ID.

this wasnt sent via e-mail though it came through regular US mail at least mine did. It is coming from the US District Court its not like it was a blank envelope or some shotty printing job. Maybe its just my work with the legal system and court system that I know what court mailings look like.

Just my opinion, but anyone who takes an offer at face value is an idiot.

Finger wagging

I'm PhishHead and I'm making a valid point yet the person I'm telling this to isn't quite getting it and it makes me all huffy and tired. And grumpy and HARUMPH! I READ DOCUMENTS THAT ARE VALID!

Wow. With CCC calling Pixie a schmuck and Ms. Fuzzybutt calling Phishy an idiot, this is turning into quite the combative night.

I'm gonna try for option 2. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

I may need bail money or at least a safe house.

I got this too and having traveled a lot overseas, those conversion costs add up a bit.

I too am skeptical of this though. Good God -- I've been a bad influence on the Fuzzybutt!

Not yet. I will though. I want my $75. I hate to be the guinea pig though. Been down that road before.

I finally put in my paperwork for this yesterday. I'm sure it will take a while.

Anyone else follow through?

My mother just had me apply for her online for the $25 option. No one keeps exact records from that long ago so I think most will go for the $25.

Option 2 was very easy. I will probably get about $75 back. All I had to do was estimate the total number of days I was overseas during that time frame and for what purpose. No going through credit card statements or anything.

My mom was over there longer and had more credit card expenses so she is going to do option 3 and could get back about 3% of anything she charged. It will be more work, but probably worth it.

Apparently, Wal Mart raped me in 2001 when I worked there. I just finished filling out a form that came in the mail regarding the class action suit against them involving unpaid wages. I stand to get anywhere from $25 to $250. Cool beans!

I hope I score one of those sweet $1.75 checks out of this one, like a few other class action lawsuits I was apparently part of.
