Good Lord. This movie HURTS, man...

I watched it out of curiosity, not really expecting much since as much as I like Cusack, his films these days tend to be too cheesy or just plain bad...but this...WOW.

I haven't seen a movie this emotionally honest in, well, maybe ever. It's incredibly sad, but it's not a tearjerker...that's too cheap a term. It's just really raw and honest but still powerful and hopeful...I don't know, I can't really put into words how this movie hit me.

Amazing. Cusack is owed the Oscar for this.

Just that fucking trailer was brutal.

There's a lot of good movies coming out this winter.

"I know what we can do! We need a way to make a death sudden and harsh, so let's use the Iraqi war, instead of a car accident or a brain aneurysm!"

EDIT: Reading the plot now, I can see why an Iraqi death would be better than a car accident/brain aneurysm. But still, meh.

Trust me, I went into it thinking the same thing...I'm very wary of crappy "tearjerkers" and ones that cheaply use tragedy, especially huge real life ones (Reign Over Me, I'm looking at you) to get the audience to feel something, but this movie doesn't do that at all.

This being a military family is key to the plot and defines what we see almost the entire time. The politics of the Iraqi War are inconsequential...this movie makes no effort to politicize itself one way or the other...it simply uses it as a contemporary stage that allows us to see a military family dealing with the tragedy of losing a loved one in combat.

Give it a shot.

I knew I should have seen this at the Milwaukee Film Festival this fall....but Cusack has burnt me so many times in the past 5 years I didn't trust him.

Seriously, everything I've read about this has been tremendous.

I heard about this movie over the summer. They were talking about fall and winter movies and which ones could be oscar worthy. They said Cusak will probably win his first oscar for this. I want to see this so bad.

You are such a negative joy thread killer, everytime someone is saying something positive about something you come along with the negative. When you open a gift do you say to the person giving it to you "Meh it could of been better?"
