Some may remember the heated on-board debate between my husband and I about the necessity of having more than one game system. First, we had 360, and I pleaded for Wii. After many fights, I achieved my Wii with a warning that the entrance of a PS3 to our household would achieve one thing, divorce.
Then I set my sights on PS3. I knew this system would be a must have for Final Fantasy. Plus, I desired what I could not have as a child, the glorious gaming trifecta of all 3 next gen systems.
Today a box arrived with Jeff, which I hastily opened to find a PS3. He hath given up the gaming argument and our house is in a state of calm as I am going to go set up the system right now.

Man, I wish I had a wife like you. I bought my wife a purse. I wish she wanted something I could use, too.
Although, she did make me get a Wii. So she's got that going. Of course, she won't let me play it now.

Thats the point of the conversation when you cram some salami down her throat...

You know this requires some serious suckling time as graditude.
One of the first game you must buy is Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. It's the best game on the console right now, hands down.

We've already established that Missy is one of the coolest chicks on the board. Outside of the whole rage issues, of course. And her husband. And the cat thing. But other than that... yeah!

I was taken aback last week when my wife asked for a Wii shortly after driving us over to Best Buy to pick up an LCD TV. Is there some sort of conspiracy that you ladies haven't let us in on? If so, I'll gladly agree to it.

It completely blows. The controls are AWFUL.

Good to know. I can't justify dropping that much coin on a system when I already have a 360. I've been pushing to get a WII.

Not the point.
The only video game I play on a relatively regular basis is Sonic the Hedgehog.
Actually, I don't call it playing Sonic; I call it killing Sonic because I have no thumb control whatsoever.
Bad controls are not a minus to me.
Besides, killing a 2-D pixillated hedgehog is good, but killing a 3-D dragon has to be more gooder.

The system is 400 bucks. The game is 60. Why don't we get a wii and you can have a race against Mario as Sonic?

So? Did I ever say I had to have a PS3 now-now-now? No, I didn't. I can wait until either (a) the price comes down or (b) the system tanks and eliminates this discussion altogether.
I simply said that killing dragons I can't control would be more gooder than killing a hedgehog I can't control.
Mario stinks and I don't like him.

The thing is there's no use for your thumbs. You can't use the analog sticks to control the dragon. You have to tilt the controller to control the dragon. And it works ten times worse than it sounds. In fact, saying it "works" is giving it too much credit.

I can't count on my thumbs in Sonic, either.
I blame Chris Suellentrop for writing this article and making me want the PS3:
http://www.slate.com/id/2152794/
My motion-sensitivity epiphany occurred while I was playing Lair, which isn't a PS3 launch title... You play a dragon rider, and you handle the reins of your dragon without tapping a single button. Tilt the controller down, and your dragon dives. Tilt it back toward you, and you climb into the sky. Tilting left and right makes the dragon bank, well, left and right. The game play is simple, intuitive, and elegant. I felt almost graceful as I led my dragon through a series of training hoops floating in the air. To make him fly faster, I tapped the X button, which felt slightly cruder, just as slapping him with a riding crop would feel. Battle was understandably more intense, involving some button-mashing and quicker snaps of the wrists to make the dragon attack other riders and their dragons nearby.
Playing Lair was transfixing, and best of all, it felt entirely new. It made me think a PS3 might be worth buying after all, even if my TV can't display its pretty pictures. For Sony, there's only one downside: Lair made me even more excited to get my hands on a Nintendo Wii.

There's levels in Super Mario Galaxy where you ride a Manta Ray and turn by twisting your wrist. Or the level where you hold the Wiimote straight up and Mario runs on top of a ball based on the direction you tilt the Wiimote.

Best use of the Wiimote for me so far has been in Resident Evil 4. I get so much satisfaction out of shooting a perfect head shot with the wiimote and seeing the head explode. It made me like shooters. I hate playing FPS with a regular controller.
