I keep getting a popup ad window saying I have spyware and I should go to this site to get rid of it. I am running OS 10.4. I didnt even know it was possible to get spyware on a mac.

It is probably more likely sites you are navigating to have devious popups that tells everyone they have spyware. They just want you to click through to their site for advertising or to download their program-- which is probably worse than anything you have installed.
It is especially incriminating when the pop-up is windows-themed: XP styled red X boxes to close, less-smooth font compared to Mac, ugly PC icons, etc.
In short, don't install anything they tell you to. If you are worried, head over to the Apple website for their list of antivirus/firewall utilities. Unless you have downloaded crazy crap, you probably are safe.

It is doing it even when I am not browsing anywhere. Just out of the blue. Next time it happens I will screen cap it.

I think it may be from Full Tilt Poker. It only started doing it after I downloaded it.

Pretty sure there's no spyware for the Mac... yet. Sounds like a bullshit ad. Empty your browser cache (Tools>Clear Private Data). Then go into your preferences and turn on pop-up blocking.

I use Full Tilt for Mac and have had no pop ups while running it. (Except for the one that informs me I just finished a tournament in some ridiculous place.)
Try disabling/uninstalling any extensions/themes/add-ons from the 'Tools' menu.

Macs are becoming very popular now with Apple's great advertising and more and more people becoming aware of VISTA being an overpriced failure. That is getting the hackers more interested in hacking into Macs.

Hah, yea man i hear ya. Its such a give-away when i get windows themed pop ups on my macbook.
As also stated above, Macs are becoming A LOT more popular in this last few years - hackers are going to start coming our way soon which is such a shame, ive really enjoyed having a bug-free life since i converted to Mac over a year ago. It was just to run vital music production software but now i'll never go back to PC.
Anyways, to the original thread-starter, i definitly wouldnt comply to any orders gave to you from a pop-up. If you actually did that you would have thought you won the lottery a million times by now!

there's a free program called macscan that scan search to see if you have any spyware on your mac.
