madden online problems

so im playing madden online on my mac
i can get into the game lobby fine

but for some reason when i enter a game it will not connect

do i need to play with my router to do this?

I haven't played madden in a few years, but I remember them listing the router ports that need to be open in the manual and in the online news part of the game.
