could the hawaii offensive system work in the nfl
one of the things that people always say to justify the success of qbs playing for hawaii is how good the system is.
if thats so then why wouldn't/couldn't this system work at the next level
looking at the niners today im dreaming of a system that would work that well
why couldn't this work and be special at the next level
im pulling for june jones (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/June_Jones) to be the next head coach of the niners

what exactly is their "system" i watched two of their games this year, about 3 last year and a few the year before. from all i can tell its mostly just having colt in the shotgun. is that accurate? i know steve mcnair did that at alcorn state during his college days and everybody raved about how amazing he was. i just thought he was alright but was inflated because all he did was pass out of the shotgun.

They run the RUN-SHOOT offense, and it has put up great numbers in the NFL with Warren Moon in Houston for a long time.

June Jones NFL head coach record : 22-36
June Jones has always run a version of the Run & Shoot offense.
In my opinion, it can't work in the NFL for these reasons (at least these I can think of):
1. It is essentially a one-dimensional offense. That pass-happy stuff works in college, but you need balance in the pros or defenses will scheme around that one-dimension and have a tactical advantage over you.
2. It does not protect the quarterback. Since the sets he runs do not generally use a fullback or a tight end the QB is at a heightened risk.
3. Ball-control. With any pass happy team, they generally cannot control the ball in the pros. This puts greater pressure on the defense, so it's hard to play winning football that way.
4. Not physical. His offense is totally based upon finesse and at the professional level that is generally not sustainable. You are not physically wearing out the defense, so they are too fresh in the fourth quarter.
It's already been done in the NFL though....and generally been scrapped. The Atlanta Falcons & the Houston Oilers both ran it with really good teams and you don't seen any Lombardi Trophies on their mantles.
I will admit that as a fan...it's damn fun to watch!

and your right there are times were it needs to slow the game down, and in his years in Huston and Atlanta he never had a running back to take advantage of, now if you add a ball control and mix in some high power offense it could work. Hey anythings possible

Actually I would slightly dispute that "no running game" claim.
That Houston Oilers franchise had quite a run with running backs (Mike Rozier, Alonzo Highsmith, Lorenzo White, Allen Pinkett) and probably make the best effort at ball control that a Run & Shoot offense ever has.
And I believe that was Kevin Gilbride running the offense. I've never seen Jones make that type of effort towards the running game.

a good counter/flip game with a good physical running back that can block and catch out of the backfield with a line that could run a zone blocking system out of a gun formation and a tight end that work as well in the passing system as the power run system
outside of the o-line it seems to me like the niners would work perfect for this system

the ne o utilizes the gun a lot and it seems to work well for them

36-44 with the Browns. And a 5-11 first season with the Patriots.
Oh, and he was defensive coordinator for all of Parcells Super Bowls, I believe.

i'd still love to see a team with 2 f/b and a strong r/b run a wishbone o.
it would dominate any team, except my vikes (we suck but are #1 vs the run)

Why do you argue with peoples opinion and try to justify things with anyone who disagrees with you.
Fact is the June Jones or any Run and Shoot ultimately fails because teams can clue in, look what the redskins did to the lions in the 91/92 playoffs and then to Glanvilees Falcons. Not to mention things have to be perfect conditions for the system to ultimately succeed.
Plus June Jones sucked on a personal level as well with players

The wishbone wouldn't work in the pros as the speed in the NFL is too good. Defensive Ends & Linebackers in the NFL are too skilled for that to succeed.
But if the Vikings wanna run that offense, the rest of the NFC North wouldn't mind you wasting Adrian Peterson.

clarification: we couldnt run it, but we could stop it.
your right... the nfl- d would eat that up in a hot minute.
