SECAUCUS, NJ -- Red Bull New York on Thursday unveiled the updated design of Red Bull Park, a state-of-the-art soccer-specific facility, to be constructed in Harrison, New Jersey. Construction is set to begin in early December 2007 with a yet to be determined completion date in 2009.

Key to the updated design is a new dynamic form roof - a curving structure that wraps the entire stadium in an elegant metal shell. The unique stadium roof design, which will create a distinguished identity and unique atmosphere for Red Bulls fans, will extend from its leading edge over the entire seating bowl and then curve down to the concourse, creating the dominate architectural statement of power and elegance. The roof will extend 130 feet from the last seat to just over the field's touchlines, with 60 feet of the roof being translucent, letting in natural light.

Also included in the update is the location of the seating in relation to the field. The main concourse will be 26-feet high, eliminating the majority of field-level entryways. This will give Red Bull Park's seating bowl a very compact, close-to-the-action feeling. The first row of lower level seats are just 21 feet from the touchlines.

http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/518/stad2wx7.jpg

It will feature an overall seating capacity of 25,189 for soccer. Included in the redesign are 30 luxury suites (20 lower level and 10 upper level) and 1,116 club seats.

Red Bull Park is situated on 12.34-acre site bounded by 6th Street to the west and Cape May Street to the South and East. The facility is owned by Red Bull Park, Inc., on a site owned by the Town of Harrison.

I think they will. Any time a new stadium opens, that first season pretty much is always packed. Plus, I bet NYRB will have a pretty impressive player on their roster that will put asses in seats by the time that stadium is ready to open. Right now I'm thinking it'll be Ronaldinho or Thierry Henry. Both will be past their primes in Europe, but still have plenty to show for here in the US and Canada.

i like to consider myself pretty sports savy, i keep an eye on sports a lot. I think I know more about sports then the average American does. I watch at least one game in one sport a night, 155+ baseball games a season for the Yanks, numerous fantasy leagues, etc. I cant name a single player on the Red Bull. In fact, the only player I know in all of MLS is David Beckham. Does Alexi Lawless still play?

The Red Bulls have one of the most exciting Americans playing for them (for now) in 17-year-old Jozy Altidore. The kid's a beast and should be a great asset for Team USA in future World Cups and tournaments for the next several years.

Alexi Lalas retired years ago and actually used to be the GM of the Red Bulls (then known as the Metro Stars). He's now the GM of the LA Galaxy and is the man responsible for bringing Beckham to Major League Soccer.

60,000+ filled Giants Stadium when the Galaxy visited to play the Red Bulls this past August.

If NYRB gets that one marquee player like the Galaxy did with Beckham, then that stadium should have no worries of not being full.

i dont think thats true, does L.A. sell out every game? yea Beckham was a minimal initial splash, but nobody gives a shit he's here anymore.

Every stadium Beckham visited was at or near full capacity. The Galaxy did well attendance wise before Beckham arrived as they had a soccer-specific-stadium already in place. Since joining them, all their games have been full.

Almost half the teams in the league have their own soccer-specific-stadiums and all but one of them have consistently good attendance figures.

I would be willing to get into it..I'll watch the odd Premier League game on cable...but why the fuck would they build that stadium in New Jersey?

And I don't mean any slight to Jersey when I say that, but soccer is an immigrant's game. Why wouldn't you put a stadium in the city? It's smaller than the West Side plan that the Jets had. It could have gone in Red Hook, or near the new Shea in Queens. There must be some spot in the Bronx where they could do a 15, 000 stadium. They should have worked with the people who built Ichan stadium on Randall's Island. That would have been a kick ass place for a stadium.

Sports marketing has gotten so suburban lately. Even the new Yankee Stadium is going to be one big suburban mall with less seats for real fans and more boxes for corporations, paid for with taxpayer money. They say it's so that it's easier for fans to get to the game, but I've driven to Giants stadium for a Monday night game, and never again. It took an hour and half to get into the parking lot, the game was midway through the second quarter, and we left the city early on purpose so that we could get there early and check out the tailgating. Then I finally get into the lot, and there's a guy there he says $10.00. Maybe it was 20, I don't remember. I look him and screamed "why don't I just get out of the car so you can kick me in the fucking nuts while your at it!"

He waved me through.

So, yeah, nice looking stadium, but what a white bread piece of shit business plan they have. You know I can say this because my people are from Lithuania - which makes me pretty fucking white: I'm really fucking sick of white people these days. Times Square Mall, goddamn Little Italy turned into NOLITA by stupid white fucks, PARK fucking SLOPE which is just Montclair NJ plopped in the middle of Brooklyn. The reason I live in the city is for the flavor, not to be surrounded by white people looking for a good deal. Next thing you know, you live in jive ass Williamsburg, cramming yourself onto the L train with Lisa Loeb lookalikes and skinny dudes with skateboards.

My point is, in my mind a true professional soccer team with the name New York in the front needs to have some flavor. The Red Bulls home game needs to look like the 7 train, man. Drums and chants, whistles and energy. Somehow I don't think that's going to happen in Harrison NJ.

You obviously dont know that area of NJ. Its a huge immigrant, area. Its full of Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and other cultures that watch and love soccer. Plus this isnt suburbia. This area (Newark area) is the laregest population in NJ and its the area of our BIGGEST CITY.

As for your disdain for Giants Stadium. I know when I go to yankee stadium and shea it costs me money to park, there is way more traffic going to shea then anywhere i have been in my life. I would love to get the shitty Jets out of NJ, hell take back the Giants. NJ does all the work, supports every "NY" team more then NY does and we get none of the credit. When the Nets go to NY most of the fans will come from NJ, not me because im tired of going to shitty bronx, brooklyn, queens just to see games. If they put a stadium in Manhattan thats a different story.

And for things being white or whatever. Im white, Im proud to be Italian (white) and I love a mix of "flavor". The reason so many stadiums are "white" as you call it is most fans that go to games are white. I guess you sell to you market! They do mix in promos for latin night and other similar nights. Go on those nights, you should fit white in!!!

NJ fans are too busy supporting the giants, jets, knicks and rangers, yankees and mets. See the area is very populated, just because your from NJ doesnt automaticly make you a nets or devisl fan. Most are knicks, rangers fans. The reason they have been around longer and those 2 teams are shoved in our face more then the devils and the nets.

The garden is the worst place in the world to watch an basketball game. The seats are so small and the place smells like feet. I watched basketball games and boxing fights there and I hate it everytime i go there.

Please dont talk negative about Jersey when you live in a sewer. Staten Island is disgusting. I know I had a few apartments there. Thank god I didnt have to sleep there often. 1 of the apartments had the worse smell ever when the windows were open. When it was humid out you could see the nasty air and the stink would make yo want to throw up. When I had to stay in the place more then an hour I would wear a mask so I didnt get sick.

I hear ya, SI sucks, im not comparing people, just sports fans but why have jersey teams when most have alliances to NY, I see the Nets have the right Idea, only time before the devils are gone

I disagree, the nets are making a mistake in my opinion. They are finally getting suport and beating the knicks as far as winning, but a move to the bronx is really going to piss off fans and may have to compete even more for the NY crowd to fill both stadiums. I think NJ fans might say fuck it and no go. As for the devils, I could care less because hockey does nothing for me, but they just built a new stadium in Newark mainly for the devils. I think they have a 20 or 25 year agreement.

Ok, I'll buy that.

Then call them the New Jersey Red Bulls. That's cool with me, and I hope they do great.

But I'm not going out to Jersey for a soccer game, any more than you're coming to Queens for one, and for the same reason. Big pain in the ass.

I agree with you 100% that they should be called NJ. The problem seems to be that North Jersey is so close to the mecca of the universe (NY) and south jersey is so close to another major market/city (Philly) that NJ gets lost in the mix. The closest thing NJ has to a city is Newark and although at 1 time is was a major city it always got lost to NY. How could it not? NYC is less then 10 miles away. I have traveled all over the USA and everywhere i have been people always say "You're from NY, right"? and I always say "No NJ" and their response has always been "Isnt that the same" or "isnt NJ part of NY"? NJ is one of the greatest states, we have everything (mostly good and some bad) yet we will always be bunched in with NYC. I guess it could be worse?

NJ will always bee second fiddle to NY. Heck, Live Earth was billed in NY even though it was at Giants Stadium. NJ was upset about it but the concert people said to basically fuck off b/c people around the world know NY, not NJ. I agree, call them the NJ Red Bulls. Also, do the same w/ the Giants and Jets. Let Wilpon and the Mets bring a team to queens and make that the NY team. The Nets need to get out of there. NO ONE SHOWS. NJ fans stink. The Devils are a good team, yet fans only go for the rivalry games and playoffs. Same w/ Nets fans.
