I'm working on a friend's computer, and I can't get any video past the boot up screen when using the video card. The onboard graphics port works fine, but when I use the graphics card port, I get "frequency out of range 64.0 khz / 59 hz. The monitor also works fine with the card in another computer. I also tried connecting an old CRT monitor to the graphics card, and same result. Ideas?

Also, won't let me install the drivers unless the card is installed, but when I put the card in, the pc automatically disables the onboard port.

Can you get into Windows with the on board port? Get into Windows, go to the hardware control panel, and try removing any mention of graphics anything. Then try rebooting into safe mode and setting the monitor settings to the lowest everything you can find and then try the card.

You said the card works on that computer before you get into Windows? So it will show you the post screen and all the load up stuff but as soon as Windows starts it goes blank? Sound like it's a windows setting that is killing it. Removing everything of the card and all of the drivers should let you start from scratch.

Yes, everything is fine getting into windows with the onboard port. With the graphics card port, I can see the flash screen, the bios screen, then after the windows flash screen i get a black screen with frequency out of range, and can hear the windows start up sound. Im trying to reinstall windows now.

Strangely, that worked.

That's a tad extreme...

Did you try changing the settings and using safe mode first?
