My Prius Failed Emissions

This is the first year in Georgia that the new model Prius' has to take the emissions test.

The only problem is that the state emissions test involves idling the car for 30 seconds. The Prius does not idle for more than 10 seconds before shutting off the gas engine....
No Idle.... No Passing the test.

There is a way to make the car idle, but after trying for nearly an hour to find the "easter egg" that keeps the Internal combustion engine running, I have given up for the day.

This is driving me crazy..... 50 miles per gallon and Low pollution.....And I can't pass the test....

Some States don't even require Hybrids to be tested.....
Dammit!!!!

My Prius has no problems with power....
When I need a burst of acceleration, I mash the gas and it goes.....

The gas engine kicks in and everything is fine....
Your gas mileage suffers, but you can drive a prius like any other car. The gas engine will just be used more than the electric motor. (and you will end up with gas mileage in the high 30's to low 40's. I have never had a tank below 40MPG....

I have gotten it over 100mph many times and regularly drive it at 80 on the interstate....
None of the power issues I feared when I first was looking at the car have ever been a problem for me.....

I love people who define their "manliness" by what type of car they drive. My only problem with hybrids is that the car companies take advantage by charging so much. You will never make back that money in fuel savings.

My chick has a prius and its great on long road trips. LA to Reno, to Sacramento and back on 24 gallons of gas.

It may not be the most fun to drive but fuck it, $30 bucks equals 400 plus miles.

you have never even seen me drive, first of all. And second, power is useful in every day safe driving. Its dickheads with no power in their cars who i constantly have to swirve to avoid cause they merge onto the highway going fuckin 30 cause they cant get up to highway speed in the acceleration lane cause they drive sissy mobiles

its not about manliness, but you need a car with some power for alot of situations that come up driving. ive had to drive prius' for a job i had and they are the slowest things ever. I couldnt stand the corolla i had as my first car cause i would turn on the AC and it wouldnt move nearly as fast. im not sayin you need a fuckin v12 but prius' suck. Other hybrids are fine, most of them move well. Prius drives like a 2 cylinder

I think the speed thing is all in your head. I bet if we compared its acceleration to other regular passenger cars, it wouldn't be significantly slower at all.

The Prius is fine car to drive, and is for more people than just the crazy environmentalists. If you're the type of person who likes drive faster than you need to more often than not, then yeah, this car might not be for you. But if you drive normal, then it does everything you need.

Georgia should have the backup test if they primarily test exhaust smoke. The secondary test is to hook the car's computer to the test computer to see if 1) the car has been reprogrammed outside of factory specs and 2) see if the computer has recorded any engine codes that report emissions equipment errors.

Here in Jersey cars that are 2001 and newer don't even get a smoke test. The test people just look on the car's dash for the "check engine" light. If it is on, they automatically fail the car. If it is off, then they test the computer. Once that is over, they move on to brakes and suspension.

A Prius goes 0-60 in a little over 10 seconds, or about the same as a 4 cylinder Toyota Camry. The "no acceleration" shit is just that, shit. It accelerates like a normal, everyday 4 cylinder car.

I don't get why people are so anti-Prius. If you don't like it, don't drive one.

2)Vehicle in Park
3)Step on accelerator pedal twice

not a chance in hell. You can read all the stats you want, but i worked for a place and drove many of each, and my mom has an 05 4 cylinder camry. First of all, the Camry is ALOT quicker and doesnt take 10 seconds to get to 60. The CVT's toyota threw on them get them up to power alot faster then a 4 cylinder seemingly should
