I purchased 4 zunes to give as gifts for Christmas. I never liked ipods and wanted to get a Microsoft based mp3 player. Anyway the software is retarded. Does anyone know anything about the zune? I have so many questions, my main question is, Is there a way to not use the zune software? I want to use windows media player 11 to sync and load my music. I have a gigabeat and it is the easiest thing to use. All I have to d is open windows media player, connect my gigabeat and click on the sync tab. I then drag and drop whatever i want on the gigabeat and it syncs. I cant seem to do it with the zune which seems odd since thats what windows media player 11 was made for syncing mp3 players. I have so many other questions any help will be great.

Yeah, I have a Zune, and the software is godawful. It was bad before, but they just upgraded it a couple of weeks ago, and I think they've managed to give you even fewer options. The way it tags files annoys me so much that I actually convert all of my files in iTunes and then import them onto the Zune software.

As far as I know, you can't use any other programs for synching files. I think there's supposedly a way you can hack it to where you can drag and drop files onto it with Windows Explorer, but I haven't looked into it.

Thanks for the insight. I always thought that ipods software was awful, but it sounds like this is worse. Im giving these as gifts to my family that know nothing about computers. I teach them something and they never pick it up. I was hoping this was easy like drag and drop so that they can upload their zune whenever they want. I guess this is one more thing I will have to always do for them.

F*#@

What do you mean "Tags files" Can you explain that!

Well, this pretty much killed all curiosity I had with the Zune.

Love them or hate them, Apple is king of the MP3 player for a reason.

I'm really not trying to be a douche here, but can you return the Zunes? If it is going to be a pain in the ass and your family isn't really tech savvy, I would try to return what you have and pick up something better suited to your wants/needs.

Either that or Ebay the bastards and hope you can mitigate the loss.

EDIT: Apparently the Zune won't work with Vista either (http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=104)... WTF?!?!?!?!

OK, I found this article and download (http://www.zuneboards.com/content/view/127/2/) on zuneboards.com that offers a hack (actually a suite of hacks), but I don't know if it still works. Apparently an update on November 13 may have blocked it, but there isn't any info.

Also, I have no idea how safe this site is for downloading. I just found it and don't have a Zune - I am just trying to wind-down and research helps. Good Luck!

Matt thanks for your help. I will go to the site you listed and read up on things. I can sell them on ebay but I really wanted to like the zune. I bought myself one too and love the functioning of the zune itself and everything about the unit, the only problem is the software you put on the computer and syncing. I cant believe Microsoft could create such a mess when all they had to do was make it plug and play and sync with media 11 like gigabeats.

I just picked up a Samsung YP-T10 (http://reviews.cnet.com/mp3-players/samsung-yp-t10-4gb/4505-6490_7-32588460.html?tag=prod.txt.3) and I have to say it is far and away the best MP3 player I have ever used. the screen is amazing, the sound is great, drag and drop files through windows explorer, built in bluetooth. you really can not ask for any more.

oh yea, 150 bucks.

yeah, you can lock the ff on but it still takes a few mins to get more than an hour in, how do other mp3 players do it?
