I downloaded American Gangster yesterday. This is Jay-Z's 2nd album since retiring. His return album was awful, and this album which many have given 4 stars is just as bad. I want to say I liked 2 maybe 3 tracks. The beats seemed forced and rushed. He mixed it with some 70's soul and it just didn't work. The lyrics never really meshed with the beats, and were all over the place. I know its hard to give up your passion, but sometimes you got to let it go.

I agree. This album sucks a fat dick. It reminds me of the Beastie Boys' last album.

It seems rushed, with clearly minimal effort. It's just him rapping over really uninspired, boring, almost amateur beats.

This album actually makes his return album seem pretty decent.

I think about 5 songs, If that, on the album but haven't listened to it more than once. A guy with that much lyrical ability and nothing to prove or need to make money????? Man, If I had that I'd be busy trying to do what hasn't been done before and taking WAY MORE musical risks.

Any How.....Looking for a dope MC not doing the normal blah blah and two step?
Check out Jay Electronica....Peep

I liked "Kingdom Come" a lot. it was an intelligent album. he wasnt sitting there poppin off about jewels, cristal, money and bitches, he was actually saying stuff on that album. "American Gangster" seems rushed because it was rushed. He saw the flick, got inspired and went into the studio. It's def. his worst album in my opinion, but I don't hate it. I like "Party Life", "Hello Brooklyn", "No Hook" and "Roc Boys". "Blue Magic" isnt that bad of a track either.
