I axed this question in the "People Worry Too Much About..." thread.

I remember having these as a kid. They came via mail and you stored them in a plastic rolodex-type container. They were then organized by the icons up on top.

What were these called? Did anyone else have them? This is driving me crazy!

i had them too! i had ones with animals, with famous places. I also had all these books that were part of a collection of books called SWEET PICKLES. they taught life lessons using animals. Another series of books I had were in the 14'' white books with stories of famous people at different times in their lives teaching values like PATIENCE, DETERMINATION, etc. I have no idea what they were called either.

I remember them from school, but can't remember what they were called or what they were used for. I think they might have been tied to the Olympics, but that may be a related memory jumping in.

I'll keep searching my brain...

Holy Crap - I Found Them!!!

They were called "Sportscaster Cards" or "Focus on Sports Cards" and were a subscription card set in the late 70's. Check out the info here (http://www.atlaspicturecards.com/Sportscaster_cards.html).

The main page of the site (atlaspicturecards.com (http://www.atlaspicturecards.com/index.html)) also talks about the animal cards and several other sets I didn't know they had. It looks like you can still order some of them too!

I have been searching all afternoon. Thank my OCD for helping me find them!

Wow...I remember those. They'd send you a couple in the mail and try to get you to purchase a set each month, kinda like Columbia House did with albums.

I don't know if anybody actually joined the club and got a full set.

Why so hurtful? I thought his line was pretty funny, and I had a few sets like them too. Mine had planes and military battles, as well as dinosaurs.

I knew that...it just had to be said.

I found a bunch of these old type of cards recently as I cleaned out a closet. Found it ironic that it was discussed here then I stumbled onto them.

Wasn't there a commercial for the animal cards that talked about the duckbilled platypus?

Are they the same ones that came in like a plastic old-school green construction worker's lunch pail? I had ones about Ancient Egypt. The pictures on the website don't look quite how I remember them...

Put a steak in his hand and they'd be indistinguishable.

PS - I remember these too. We got them even up here. I had the animal ones. I dunno where they came from but I think they just showed up in the mailbox without even asking for them.

We got the animal and the sports ones,..It was funny, for us we didnt want to join, and like a year later they sent us the whole sets for each like,..nobody wanted that crap and they were just dumping them.
