I want to get my wife a webcam for her ibook G4 and wanted to see if anyone can offer any suggestions. I went into the Apple store and they were of no real help other than to tell me they don't sell webcams anymore.

Any insight will be appreciated.

I guess the original iSight has been discontinued. You could get one on ebay, but they are much more expensive than the rest.

There are some much less expensive ones on Yahoo! Shopping: Mac Webcams (http://shopping.yahoo.com/s:Webcams:1015-System%20Type=Mac;_ylt=AoAE6rBwoSA565TdEkktCVIHmcs E;_ylu=X3oDMTBmNzVhaTljBF9zAwRzZWMDd2VzdG5hdg--?y=gg). I believe all iBook G4s have firewire and USB 2.0, so either should work.

I have a Mac Mini so,.. no webcam,..

My camera is a: Logitech QuickCam-Communicate Deluxe, $79, glass lens, 5 megapixels,..works great.

In any case, download Macam (http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/), its a third party software that helps supports as many USB webcams as possible,..its quick and easy.

Here is a couple of pages with lists of cameras. Click. (http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/cameras/index.php) Click. (http://www.ecamm.com/mac/ichatusbcam/configs.html)
Spending a little more for a better camera is worth it, I found the messenger application Skype works alot better than iChat or Yahoo, great picture and audio. Good luck

I'd say iSight, but it seems to have gone up in value on ebay since it was discontinued. Otherwise I'd recommend Logitech cams.

OK, instead of creating a brand new thread, I would like to broaden this question a little. If it is too much of a hijacking, please disregard (or Mods, you may delete) my post.

I am a PC guy but want to start working with MAC. If I want to get a MAC laptop, what do I need to get?

I am looking for basic specs, software to include, etc. Is it cool to go with Leopard or do I need to wait a while for them to work out the bugs (like I am waiting for Vista to stabilize before adopting it).

I will probably still want to use it for business and I know that some MACs can be compatible with MS Office and other programs, but (again) I don't know what to look for.

PM's are fine if you don't want to "junk up" the thread, but there may be others that are looking for the same info. Thanks Buddays!

Matt, start a new thread. Everyone else can PM him or reply in the new thread. Too off topic to go with the cam question.
