I have strept throat, so I am quarantined away from my family and have to stay home. No turkey and potatoes for me. Instead I have tea and soda crackers.

Who else is alone on thanksgiving?

Me. I was supposed to go to my parents but something came up and I have to be here tomorrow morning, so I skipped the trip. So it's just me, Evan Williams, Bob Dylan, football and a turducken breast. Ain't half bad really.

Me too. But I have a slew of movies all lined up:

Quadrophenia
Oldboy
Patton Oswalt Werewolves and Lollipops
Zach Galifianakis Live at the Purple Onion

FEEL BETTER CRAIG!

Flying solo over here. Bought Super Mario Galaxy, have a couple of overdue movies to watch, and plenty of booze.

I am, and my story is more pathetic than any you'll have today.

Here's the deal: my family's big Thanksgiving dinner was moved this year from my aunt's house, which I've been to many, many times, to one of my cousin's houses. She lives way the fuck out in the middle of nowhere Kentucky.

Now, those of you from the New York area might think you go a little upstate and you're in the middle of nowhere, but I assure you you have never seen desolation like the backwoods of Kentucky when you're out of an urban area. I had my Google Map directions ready to go, and I felt pretty confident. I was assured this would be a 40 minute drive.

I was fine until I got to what should have been close to the final destination. Then Google's directions seemed to be pointing to a road that did not exist. I saw a tangle of bizarre little one-lane roads with no signs. I went down one and ended up on the most terrifying road I've driven in my life. It was winding, and barely wide enough for my compact car. To my right was the sheer side of a mountain. To my left was a sheer dropoff of at least 50 feet straight into the Kentucky River. All I could do was let it ride to the end, where I could turn around and repeat the process, with the abyss on my right this time.

I drove around this mess for more than 2 hours, finding nothing that resembled the house I was supposed to be going to. I had a number to call for directions, but there was no cell signal out there. I realized I'd have to drive back to the nearest actual town to call (I should also add that I desperately needed to piss this whole time), but it took me around 45 minutes to extract myself from this mess and get back into town. At that point, it was well past time dinner was supposed to have begun. I called, gave my regrets, and went home, because I was just so frustrated and pissed off that a pall was cast over the whole thing.

So I'm at home. I ate some stuff I bought at a supermarket's deli, and I am watching the Cowboys give the Jets an assbeating now. It's an awful, awful day.

Here's an idea:

How about all the people flying solo for Thanksgiving get together in the next week or two (depending on Dark Hippie's rate of mend) for a belated celebration? Doesn't have to be traditional in the least-- hell, we could go to 6th Street for Indian food!

I have to work tonight.
I think its gonna be a dead dead dead night at the bar.

I spent the past few minutes with the tv guide on my cable planning out what to watch. There aint nothing really good on tonight.

Mmm... Indian food. None of that American Indian turkey nonsense. It's almost worth taking a flight up there
