I picked up my copy today. Its the first game I've actually purchased on the day it came out in a long time. I had to ask someone for a copy and he told me he had a few hidden out back and went and got them.

I cannot wait to get home and play it. There's some sort of 2 player mode on it where the 2nd player can jump in at any point and help do certain things.

I'm looking forward to hearing how it is. It has a lot of potential, but ultimately, I didn't enjoy Super Mario Sunshine that much.

It's like Mario 1= Mario 64, Mario 2= Mario Sunshine and Mario 3= Mario Galaxy. The first one started everything, the second one was a not highly received divergence from the original concept and the the third returns to the original's roots and takes it to the next level.

Bad analogy. Mario 2 was a semi popular game in Japan that they slapped Mario graphics onto.

I'm planning to go to TRU too to get the game and the $25 gift card.

P.S. I remember also reading in the circular, if you spent over $75, you also get a $10 gift card. If I bought another game with the Super Mario Galaxy, would I be able to get both gift cards? (Since you were able to get 2 for $25)

Best Buy has a price match to TRU. They will give you the game for $24,99 and a $25 dollar gift card. It's a good deal, but because it was announced tuesday night you may have to hassle your way through the CSR's and managers to get them to accept it. I would print out the info below and take it with you if you plan on using it. Here's what I found from slickdeals:

Best Buy is instituting a company wide price match for the TRU ad for Mario Galaxy for WII + 25$ Gift Card. Your best buy employee may not be aware as it was posted late closing tuesday night on the employee toolkit. Have the cashier ring up Mario Galaxy and enter promotional SKU # 6867688. It will bundle Mario with a 25$ issued Gift Card.

Now staying on topic, I played it most of today and really enjoy it.

I still think Mario 64 is the best of the 3D Mario titles. Galaxy obviously makes better use of the whole 3D thing, but most of the gameplay is just based on 64 (as are most 3D platformers...)

I think that's why I avoid even getting involved with some video games, because I know I'll end up sitting there for hours. I have fun, but then this guilt comes over me because I thin there HAD to be something more important I could have been doing with that time.

I don't think she's quite done yet, as Guitar Hero also has been cutting into her Mario time. She became obsessed with passing Slayer with 5 stars before moving on to medium.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I bought the game during launch week, and it took me weeks to get through what other people here did in days. I found I had an hour or two to play late at night a couple of times a week. There was one day during the holidays where I was at my parents' house alone while my wife and daughter were at my in-laws. I had nothing to do, so I played most of the day. If it wasn't for that day, I wouldn't be near as deep into the game as I am. Right now, I'm playing the Harry Potter game I got as gift in June. It will probably be weeks before I finish that game because of the amount of time I can devote to it.

My other problem is that, early on in my relationship with my wife, I was being that boyfriend/fiancee/husband, who played video games way too much. I competely fit the stereotypes you see in movies/tv.

It led to problems, and so my wife and I came to an agreement. I would not play while my wife was home, or I was taking care of my daughter. So I only really play, when my wife goes on trips with my daughter or when my wife was away, and my daughter asleep.

Becoming an adult sucks in some ways.

I'm currently in the engine room galaxies with like 73 stars and I look at the map that shows everywhere I've been and it says that I have not yet completed most of the multi star galaxies. For Example I have a like 6 stars from Good Egg Galaxy including the comet but it's still not indicating that it's complete. My question is, Are there stars that are available there that are not indicated before you start? Do I actually have to search for a star hiding somewhere in those 6 star levels? or should I continue through the game and something else like the comets pop up again?

Sorry that's the best way I can think of to phrase my question.

For swimming, don't push any buttons. Just push the stick and get used to how Mario moves like that. The shells make swimming much better though. I'll have to play again this week sometime to see what other pointers you can use. It's been at least a month since I've played. But I can say those swimming stars are a lot easier than some of the others...

I woke up this morning to my chick sleeping beside me, but Mario paused in the living room. She has 112 stars and has told me she already beat Bowser. Maybe once she's finished I'll finally get to play!! (Madden too...)

I think once you push the button he just swims in the direction you're facing? So, you just orient with the stick, then swim? I forgot to play last night. Sorry

All 120 stars complete!

My chick finally did it. There was this one purple comet board that was giving her fits, but she finally beat it. She now has the option of doing the game as Luigi...

Hate to tell you this but there are 121 stars in total. I believe you have to beat the game with Luigi and then you get an additional galaxy with the 121st star.
I have my 120 with mario and putting this game aside for now to work on completing Zack and Wiki before I go back and get that 121st star.

Galaxy was one of the most enjoyable games I've ever played and I've played a lot.

I have like 78 stars now I think I know I will never be able to get 120 stars. I hate the swimming boards so I am done with this game for now.

Toy Land Purple Coins on the Luigi shaped board............ fuck you Miyamoto. Fuck you right up the ass.

This one was brutal...easily the hardest board of the game (although the Daredevil Comet in the Molten Lava level is pretty hard).

And then I watch some douchebag on YouTube collect all 150 of the coins with like a minute to spare.

Just beat it with 120 stars. Fun game, but Mario game endings are generally not too rewarding. Got the 1st star on the second time through, just because I wanted to see the difference between the 1st and 2nd times.

I'll inch my way through it this time around...I'm just not going to have the interest in playing everything over again so soon, but I will play it to get the other big secret in the game.

The one thing I will say is this is probably the best looking game made by Nintendo ever. Anyone who wants to bitch about the Wii's graphics...the presentation on this is pretty amazing.

A couple notes on playing it through as Super Luigi Galaxy:

-It is a little bit harder.

-The levels are all the same, but there's different strategy because of how Luigi is different than Mario (he runs fast, jumps higher, has trouble stopping). For instance the Cosmic Race in the Honeybee Galaxy requires running it a different way than you did with Mario to beat the shadow.

-The Mailtoad gives you 20 1-Ups instead of 5. I guess this is because they anticipate it being harder.

-The odd thing is that most of the dialogue has been flipped from Mario to Luigi, but the keep Luigi in the haunted mansion, in the one level where you have to rescue him, and then he helps you find the Power Stars like he did when playing as Mario. So there's two Luigis. It's kind of stupid, but...eh..it's a Mario game.
