One of my friends from college with an insanely sweet gig is flying me to LA this weekend on the company dollar. Any ideas for places to go?
I'm going to try to catch Jon Brion at Largo Friday night, and I might have to do the Swingers bars. I'd hate to leave the rest all up to him...

Where in LA are you staying? That will help me narrow it down for ya.

I think he said he got an apartment in West Hollywood (God, this just keeps getting gayer, doesn't it?). I'll have to check with him later to be sure.

So you're flying from the south to stay with another man in West Hollywood. Ya. I'd say pack yourself some roofies, lube and an ice pack and you're all set, cowboy.
There is a very cool (straight) bar in West Hollywood called Barneys Beanery. Its a younger crowd, probably 20's to early 30's but a great place to party. Its on Santa Monica Blvd between Hollywood and West Hollywood.
Then you have all the Hollywood bars that out of Towners like to hit. They can be pretty fun but expect a cover and higher drink prices. If you're going to go there hit up the Bar at the Standard Hotel or Saddle Ranch on Sunset (drunk hollywood chicks + mechanical bull = happy pants).
Personally I like the vibe down in the Beach cities, laid back, go with the flow kinda people, Manhattan, Hermosa, and Redondo Beach. If you're here for a while try and get down to the Hermosa Pier. Its loaded with bars, places to eat and the chicks are usually good looking. (then again I don't want that to interfere with your man on man weekend):innocent:
If you're looking for anything specific let me know, I'll do what I can to help.

I was in LA a coupld weeks ago. The only bar I got to hit up was Busby's Mile High Club, and it was a pretty cool place. It's at LaBrea and Wilshire I believe, probably a little east of where you'll be at.
