Ok so last saturday I went to an art/ suspension show in the city. The friends I was with were completely psyched and fascinated by this shit but I found it completely barbaric and I had to leave after about 10-15 mins. Here are some pics that I thought I would share with you guys. What do you think, art or freak show?

ok I almost vomited just posting these shots.
I never really get the point of this kinda stuff. Hey, if that's your thing...great, but I just don't get it.

I'm not getting the artistic value of the work or what they are trying to express

Suspension is so 1996.
Bellydancing is so 1998.
Firedancing is so 2000.
It's all about hula-hooping now. Another year, another trendy performance thingy.
And all four of these make me wanna vomit, but only one makes me want to pass out.

Freak show stuff
It was originally a native american ritual I believe.
Now it's done by people exploring body modification. This is nothing new
and as a performance art piece its not breaking any new ground.

I like how in the first picture the guy has a vitamin water bottle in his hand. It contrasts nicely with the hooks in the back.

I've seen this on TLC. It is somehow supposed to set your spirit free or some hippie shit.
You dig it? Cool. That's your thing. I'll be down the block grabbing a beer.

Shouldn't setting your spirit free, be something that's only done when you die? It would suck to live without my spirit.

Pain don't hurt.
In New York this is considered art.
In GITMO this is considered human rights abuses.

Honestly after I left I felt very agitated and anxious just from watching. Nothing I would ever consider witnessing again for entertainment.

i think the first time i ever saw that was in dee snyder's strangeland. i don't think it really bothers me. it is a bit off & looks pretty painful, but at the same time i can understand "good pain" like that.

I think its good symbolism for the writer's strike (art suspended),
but other than that...yikes.

I was more impressed when Criss Angel did it suspended from a helicopter.

I can look at every kind of body modification there is - but hanging from piercings???? No thank you...don't wanna do it - don't wanna see it!
