what is the singular sports stat that is completely out of the touch for reaching
with so many records dying this year wether its farve or bonds or even what brady might do
what is the stat or record that is holey above all others
are there any
do records matter or is titles the only thing that matters?

The unreachable and sacred parts are distinct, right?
Unreachable: Wilt "The Stilt" Chamberlain 100 pts. & 20,000 broads.
I don't think there are any "sacred" sports records anymore.

DiMaggio's 56, Cy Youngs Wins and Nolan Ryan's No-Hitters.......those to me are un-breakable. I'm also on the fence about Ripken's record, i think players are too pamped nowadays, but its def. possible somebody could come along and break it.

Messier gave Gordy Howe a run, but didn't make it. How the fuck can you play in the NHL for 26 years and live?
Also Gordy would have had more, but the seasons were shorter when he started.

A 56 game hitting streak and 10 no hitters are realistically achievable. Unlikey yes, but not out of the realm of possibilty.
To win 512 games a pitcher would have to win more then 20 games a season for 25 years. Unless the game charges drastically that is not going to happen.

That depends on how long MLB lasts. You are basing this number on under 150 years. If baseball lasts another 500, 1,000 - 2,000 years yes that could very well chage.

i think it was 7 no-hitters..........even still, name the pitchers in baseball now that have 2 no-no's, let alone even close to 7. On top of that name the last player to reach 45 games in a hit streak. what you conceive as unlikely, i believe to be unbreakable.

Cy Young, he also has the records for games started, batters faced, IP, hits allowed, decisions, runs allowed, wins, loses etc.

Cy Young's record will never be broken, because the sport has changed in a way that makes it virtually impossible. Unless baseball reverts to the days of 10-inning pitchers who go every 4 days, ain't gonna happen.

I don't that it's unreachable. Kobe had 80 something. Now, averaging 27 rebounds a game for a year like Wilt did is much more unreachable.

I think Kobe had 81. So he was still 19 points off. The record has stood for 45 years and 19 points was the closest anyone has come. No team will allow someone to drop 100 on them.
Having said that, any single game record is going to be easier to achieve than a multiple game, season, or career record, just because there are more chances.

yea Kobe did have 81 and I have to agree with you. I watched that entire game, from opening tip-off till the final buzzer and Kobe was literally other-worldly, yet he still fell 19 short. At the end he was being double and triple teamed, still making crazy shots and getting opportunities to go to the line. A person will be fouled too much and too hard, making it virtually impossible to get to 100.

The record that comes to mind for being most out of touch would be the highest single season batting average.
I don't know the record, but it's gotta be way above .400 and I doubt any of us will see anyone hit .400, much less break the record, whatever it is........
The big O Oscar Robertson averaging a triple double for an entire season.
30.8 ppg 12.5 rpg 11.4 apg
He only did it once, but came close to doing it several times.

i can see someone doing it but
not enough scorers rebound and assist much and not many big men dish out the rock enough
my moneys on lebron though, he'll do it once

While I still think the most unreachable record is the single season batting average, another tough one would be the single-season and career scoring average in college basketball.
I believe Pete Maravich averaged over 40 in a season and I'd like to know his college career average.
Plus imagine if they had the 3-point shot back then!
He woulda averaged 50.

No one else remembers the one thats so insane theyre still trying to figure out what happened? Anomoly? Accident? Insane Good Luck? Just that good at that second? Wind? Altitude?
Bob Beamon 1968 Mexico City Long Jump
From the web:
Between 1935 and 1968, the world long jump record increased exactly eight and one-half inches. Coming into the Olympics, the world record was 27 feet, 4¾ inches.
Bob Beamon, a 22-year-old New York native, barely qualified for the Olympic long jump finals after fouling in two of his qualifying runs. Fortunately, he did.
The following day in the finals, Beamon took off down the runway in the thin air of Mexico City. After exactly 19 loping strides, he hit the board perfectly, stretched out with his legs and flew through the air. And finally, he hit the sand in the pit below—29 feet, 2½ inches later.
He leapt out of the pit, knowing he had done something special. Not only was he the first long jumper in history to reach 28 feet. He also became the first to reach 29 feet.
He shattered the world record by an unbelievable 21 ¾ inches. When the distance was given by stadium announcers, Beamon was so excited and emotionally drained that doctors claim he suffered a "cataplectic seizure."
The record lasted almost 23 years until Aug. 30, 1991 when American Mike Powell jumped 29-4½ at the World Championships in Tokyo.

Secretariat winning the Belmont Stakes by 31 lengths will never be broken. As for records being "sacred": after the McGwire/Sosa steroid con job that humiliated not only MLB but the Maris family, it's hard these days to take some records seriously. So, I'm picking a horse.
