http://www.hardwaretidende.dk/hard/artikelimages/17092001-2.jpgI've mentioned my monitor setup before on here. A couple of years ago I found a 20" Sony Trinitron Multiscan G400 sitting next to a dumpster. It's a monitor that was marketed for business applications, and allows for two cpu's to use the same monitor. You just flip a switch to go from one cpu to the other. In addition, it is the best one I've used, when it comes to doing Photoshops.

My main comp has a dual screen video card. One screen is the Sony, and the other is a 15" LCD. It's a terrific setup for doing several things at once. My second comp is hooked to the other port on the Sony.

A few weeks ago, I started having a problem. The Sony would shut off after I boot up. The power light would flash for about a minute, then I could turn it back on and it would be fine. But I saw it as a sign that it was slowly dying. Well... It did it again tonight. Now the picture is kinda muddy/faded and I had to readjust the positioning a bunch. I fear the end is near. There is no way I can afford to buy another monitor like this. I think they retailed for about $900.:glurps:

Is there anyone else who can't use earbuds at all? My ears simply aren't shaped right for them or something. I even bought a pair of those expensive Apple ones that are supposed to fit snugly in your ears, and they still suck with my ears.

I've been looking at other monitors that can replace this one. My biggest need is to be able to connect two comps to the same monitor. When I search for "dual input" monitors, I get a bunch of monitors that have one analogue input and one digital input.

My video card has two analogue outputs. Can anyone suggest a monitor, or (at least) a good suggestion of a search term to use when I look for one?

edit: Here is a photo of the second input on my current monitor.

Earbuds are about as comfortable and pleasing to use as condoms.

Actually, I just found out about KVM switches. I had no idea these things existed. I'll probably be good.

All you need is a simple VGA switch if you only want to switch the video. Another option is to use Remote Desktop Connection (if you're running XP Professional) and you can access the second computer via your network. I access two other computers from my laptop that way.

couldn't you just get an a/b switch type of thing?

I got this yesterday from newegg for 20 bucks plus 6 bucks shipping, and it works great.

Oddly enough, the monitor is suddenly working fine again, but I'm sure it's on it's last leg. When it dies, I'll get a second LCD monitor. I love only having to use one keyboard and mouse for both comps! They also had some that can share the speakers, but I didn't see any that can share 5.1 surround speakers. No biggie on that level, though.

I am consoled.

New LCD's are getting cheaper. I just picked up the Samsung 216bw (21.6") at costco for $249.

I think I may know why Satcam was bashing his head against the wall. I turned on my comp tonight, and the keyboard and mouse aren't working through the KVM switch. The light that indicates which comp you are using is just flashing, now. It still allows me to switch the monitor from one comp to the other, but not the keyboard and mouse.:wallbash:
