are nba contracts guaranteed ??
he hasnt shown enough to warrant this contract
yes they are
he has shown he has enough potential to warrant that deal, he turned a MAJOR corner last season. the problem was he got hurt in january and missed the rest of the year so he hasnt shown it long enough.
how in the world are knicks fans criticizing how another team chooses to spend it's money?

Well, you know what Scott Skilles said Curry needs to do to be a better rebounder.

Iverson traded for Billups and mcDyess
The Pistons have reached a tentative agreement with the Nuggets to trade Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess in exchange for Allen Iverson.
That would solve the Nuggets' point guard problems and Iverson is clearly not happy in Detroit. Neither player attended today's shootaround, and ESPN's Stephen A. Smith says the deal could be completed any minute. The big question is whether Iverson plays point guard or shooting guard in Detroit. Either way, he's going to gobble up a ton of guard minutes, which may not be great news for Rodney Stuckey and Rip Hamilton. Iverson has been walking through the motions in Denver, so this news is not all that surprising. Nov. 3 - 11:13 am et

AI on Detroit, looks like Cleveland has to worry
McDeyss is too old, Maxeel will get more minutes
A 3 Guard alignment with Stuckey Iverson and Rip can be very formidable
as far as Prince, I am worried, after all the Rip and Iverson points, I may have to put Tayshawn on the Waiver Wire in fantasy basketball

well, the Nets (no thats not a typo) beat A.I. and the Pistons tonight. Iverson looked like himself, im still curious to see how such a prolific scorer fits into such a heavily defensive-minded team.

i think he'll be fine as long as he isnt out there trying to win the scoring title
if he just plays with the offense and gets whatever points he gets and doesnt try to force anything just to get 30-35 pts a night he'll fit in nice
Dwayne Wade has looked scary good at times tonight.
Greg Oden....eh...not so much. You can see the potential he has defensively and on the board, and how much of an asset he could be to the Blazers down the line because he just clogs the lane, but his offensive skills are non-existent right now.
It'll be at least a couple of years before he starts becoming one of the better players in the league.

Players already respect how good he is, and as he matures and tightens up his outside game he's gonna be elite. He's definitely gonna help the Bulls with trades and FA signings since players are going to want to play with him.

Posted this in the NHL thread, felt its pertinent to here too
NHL Attendance Rising, NBA Attendance declining (http://sportsmediawatch.blogspot.com/2008/11/nba-versus-nhl-again.html)
What cannot be disputed is that the NHL's attendance is on an upward trend, while the NBA's is on a downward trend. Through November 10, NHL attendance was up 1.2% compared to the same period last year. During the 2007-08 season, NHL attendance was up 1.8%, while NBA attendance was down 2.1%.
What can be taken from this? The NBA still has higher attendance than the NHL, and while NBA attendance has been declining in the past two seasons, last year's average attendance still ranked among the best in league history. The NHL does take the lead in terms of filling its arenas to capacity; 20 NHL teams play to 90% capacity, compared to 17 for the NBA.
The biggest difference between the two leagues may be this: only 4 NHL teams play to less than 80% capacity, compared to 8 NBA teams that share that distinction. Four NBA teams (Charlotte, Philadelphia, Sacramento and Memphis) are currently averaging fewer fans per game than the team with the lowest attendance in the NHL -- the New York Islanders.
NBA/NHL attendance since 2002.
2007-8: NBA 17,396, NHL 17,268 (difference of 1%)
2006-7: NBA 17,767, NHL 16,964 (difference of 5%)
2005-6: NBA 17,548, NHL 16,955 (difference of 3%)
2004-5: NBA 17,314, NHL (no season)
2003-4: NBA 17,130, NHL 16,538 (difference of 4%)
2002-3: NBA 16,883, NHL 16,592 (difference of 2%)
And all this WITHOUT ANY PRESENCE on ESPN for the NHL, and one game a week on national broadcast, and two games a week on a poo poo cable network featuring Brian Engblom's awful hair and Mike Emrick's stupidity

Doc Rivers is the coach. This team could go on a 15 game losing streak as easily as a 19 game winning streak.
It also helps that they play in the Eastern conference and its as bad as its been in years. The play on the West Coast and they're being defeated.

Let's see, they bring in a me-first point guard who ruins Rondo's confidence last year and nearly blow the playoffs against the Hawks, so they decide to bring in the ultimate me-first guard this year. Great.

Raef is still technically on the team, but he has been in Iowa all season rehabbing. He's been shopped for a big name SF in the hopes that Portland could get a Pau Gasol like deal from a team that wants to save some cap space, so idk how willing they would be to take on Curry's back contract.

Yeah, good point, i just don't see how either team is a good trading partner, especially since Lee's contract is expiring, and Portland wouldn't want to give up much without him agreeing to re-sign ahead of time.

Kobe v. LeBron right now on TNT..........anybody else watching?
Since it's basketball-ish: D-Wade's divorce turns UGLY (http://www.jsonline.com/sports/37851289.html)
The divorce of Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade and his wife, Siohvaughn, will not be an amicable and clean one.
Wade, the former Marquette star guard, filed for divorce in May 2008 in Cook County, Ill. He and Siohvaughn were married in May 2002.
According to the Miami Herald, Siohvaughn alleges in legal papers that Wade abandoned his two children, committed adultery and infected her with a sexually transmitted disease. Siohvaughn wants the names of all of Wade's sexual partners during their marriage.
That woman wants to know who's in D-Wade's 5!
Bucks G Michael Redd may be out for season: (http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/38296604.html)
It sounds as if bad news may be coming for the Bucks. Michael Redd’s knee injury appears to be serious and may even be a season-ending situation. Redd suffered the injury in the third quarter of the Bucks’ victory over Sacramento Saturday night at the Bradley Center. Redd, who missed 14 games earlier this season with an ankle sprain, is averaging 21.1 points in 33 games.
Maybe the Knicks will get that #8 seed in the East after all.

It was definitely better. First time in modern basketball someone had a triple double while scoring 50+ points. He could just go to the basket and there was nothing a defender could do. You either give him the basket, foul him, or his athleticism goes around you. It's truly unstoppable.
People have to realize the greatness that is going on. This is Michael Jordan all over again. He does all this and he 24 years old!!! He has had no supporting cast. He's gonna go to the Finals this year (cuz the C's don't have anyone who can guard him for any length of time) and he has the MVP in the bag. It's just unreal.

He's gonna go to the Finals this year (cuz the C's don't have anyone who can guard him for any length of time) and he has the MVP in the bag. It's just unreal.
i liked Tim Thomas' strategy of let Bron go right by then whack him on the head from behind and take the foul, so he could sit down and get fatter

I sort of understood why they traded for Shaq. They needed a big man to be able to compete in the playoffs.
But I cannot understand trading Amare. He's the type of player you'd basically build a franchise around. He's young and GREAT. Why would you trade him?!

NBA Borrows 175 million dollars to help 15 strugglin' franchises (http://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/article/61537)
The NBA is set to borrow $175 million Feb. 26, marking one of the first league financings since the implosion of the credit markets last fall.
The money, which will be available to 15 teams, supplements an existing $1.7 billion leaguewide credit facility that uses the NBA’s media contracts as collateral to secure loans for the clubs. The NBA surveyed its teams, and 15 responded they would like to tap into the new borrowing.
While the league said it is pleased to borrow in an extremely illiquid credit market, the deal came at a cost, with interest rates up to 8.27 percent, hammering home the notion that the era of cheap money in sports is over. The 15 teams can use the money for any purpose, but covering operating losses may be high on the list.
“In this economic environment, it’s tremendous that the league can place such a facility,” said Alex Martins, chief operating officer of the Orlando Magic, which plans to borrow from the new debt. “It certainly helps us bridge the time period between now and when we move into our new events center in 2010. We’ve been operating at a $15 [million] to $20 million [annual] loss over the past half-dozen years, so it helps us.”
If the NHL had done this, talking heads would be declaring the end of the league

I agree about Acie. Mike Woodson just has no idea what the hell he is doing with his haphazard rotations. Acie gave Chris Paul fits the other night and should have earned more playing time. With Marvin Williams out, Acie has been getting more run and gaining some confidence. Only gonna help.
Hawks are at home against the Pacers tonight on NBATV. They pose problems for the Hawks because their big men can shoot. Luckily they can't defend either. Look for Horford to have another strong outing and Joe johnson to flirt with a third 30-pt game in a row.

Villanueva 'tweeted' at halftime (http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/41368157.html)
Did Milwaukee Bucks' forward Charlie Villanueva "tweet" on his Twitter account at halftime of the Boston Celtics-Bucks game on Sunday at the Bradley Center?
Yes, Bucks officials said Tuesday.
In what team officials are calling an "isolated incident," Villanueva sent out a message on his personal Twitter account shortly after Bucks coaches finished their halftime instructions to the team.
Villanueva, whose Twitter ID is CV31, wrote this on his Twitter account: "In da locker room, snuck to post with my twitt. We’re playing the Celtics, tie ball game at da half. Coach wants more toughness. I gotta step up.”
Apparently he did. Villanueva scored 19 points and snared seven rebounds to lead the Bucks to a 86-77 win over the Celtics.
I'm sure that Coach Scott Skiles will love this.....

im torn on the Celtics. On the one hand, Pierce is huge, and they know how to win. Ray Allen has also been very solid.
On the other hand, no KG, but even bigger. Stephon Marbury is now a Celtic. Stephon Marbury is the NBA's ALL TIME leading scorer among guys who have NEVER won a playoff series. (McGrady is 2nd btw). The is a clash of epic proportions and I will be quite depressed if Starbury wins a playoff series.

If he's dead set on building a lasting legacy then it makes sense for him to stay. If he's dead set on cashing in on being a title winner and looking to take on a new challange such as winning in New York, then it makes sense for him to go.
