Leon Powe is a man among boys.

Lakers have no shot to win this series with the way their playing defense. Officiating early was HORRENDOUS though its no excuse. I'm sure it'll be the same but in the other direction in LA.

That's a question that seriously must be addressed by the league. Why does the home team get to the stripe at least 10x more per game. They're so swayed its unreal.

What's the problem?

Home court advantage.

The home court advantage is having ref's call more fouls for the home team? How bout just calling the game as it actually happens?

Everyone keeps harping on the FT attempts. The fouls were like Celtics 26 - Lakers 21. If the Lakers actually had a big man or took it to the hole, they might have had more FT attempts.

It was Lakers 28 Celtics 21. Most of the free throws occured when the Celtics were in the penalty because of the terrible ticky tack fouls that had been called early in the quarter.

Tonights not so bad but still heavy in favor of the Lakers. I'll just never understand how home court can effect what defines a foul. Lakers look much better tonight on the defensive end.

The refs don't want to be booed? That's the only thing I've ever been able to come up with. They hear the fans about to start rumbling and quickly call a foul.

The refs do react to the players flopping and faking, so if you were to add in 20,000 people or whatever faking at the same time, it's only expected that they'd react to that, too.

College basketball is about 1000x worse with it, though.

With 2 minutes to go, the Celtics have the ball down 2. You would think they would set something up for one of the big 3, but no House fires one up with 20 secs left on the shot clock. WTF! It is like all the bench scrubs are dying to replicate what Powe did in game 2.

It was Sasha, Kobe and not much else for the Lakers. Very lucky to win this one.

I think they were clearly out of rhythm from the free throw line, they should shoot much better in Game 4 and if Odom and Gasol get their heads out of their asses the Lakers should protect home court.

What a come back. I am rooting for the C's, but are the Lakers just retarded?
Down 3 with around 25-30 seconds left, Sasha lets Ray Allen just drive to the hoop for an uncontested lay-up that basically sealed the deal. Then down 5 at the end Sasha and Kobe both take 2pt shots right at the 3 point line instead of a 3 - they missed so I guess it is a mute point but just seemed extremely stupid play the last minute for the Lakers.

I agree that guy is a freakin black hole, if they pass it to him he is going to shoot every time. He did hit some shots but he never looks to pass at all and is hurting the team

And garnett was definetly not clutch from the free throw line yesterday

work where aside from D? I do agree that they need help there. At times this year they played very good defense, but more often than not they were flat out lazy defensively. Adding that big body in Bynum down low not only improves their offense but it makes them a lot tougher on defense.

It's been a long 22 years: all the lousy draft picks and trades, the deaths of Len Bias and Reggie Lewis, the misery of the the Pitino years and almost losing our Captain to a stabbing. It's a bit ironic that the "Curse of Len Bias" would be ended by a guy wearing number 34 (a number that is certainly going up to the rafters).

This is for Red, Lenny and Reggie.

In the summer of 2000, Matt Geiger's refusal to waive a trade kicker clause in his contract stopped a four-team deal between Philadelphia, the Hornets, the Detroit Pistons and the LA Lakers that would have sent All-Star player Allen Iverson to the Pistons.

I have no idea what a trade kicker is, though.

Also, didn't Devean George stand in the way of the Mavericks making an awful trade this year? Its not a no-trade clause, its something else.

trade kicker is not a no trade clause. Trade kicker has to do with a salary cap requirement. Since Geiger did not want to waive his trade kicker (the amount of salary he would get over the years on his contract and how it is applied to the salary cap). So it wasnt that he had a no trade clause but since the salary cap was too close and he didnt waive his trade kick they could not complete the trade within the restraints of the salary cap.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm...

No more than a couple hours after Al Harrington demanded a trade out of Golden State, the Bulls and Warriors had discussions about a trade that would send him to Chicago. The Bulls likely would send one of their many guards to the Warriors. Many scenarios have been thrown out, but apparently the Warriors are most interested in Kirk Hinrich and Thabo Sefolosha.

Yes, please. Thank you.

i would think it would probably be ben gordon, based on things. No one seemed to want heinrich, and gordon isnt in the bulls future. In fairness, as much as harrington wouldnt be the piece, swappin that for gordon would at worst keep the team at the same level, probably make it better just in gettin rid of an unhappy player.

plus it might make a little more room and better situation for heinrich

Alright, I hit on the Cavs +6 and the Lakers -8 last night.

I'm going to take the Heat +3 over the Knicks, and the Sixers -5 over the Raptors tonight, with my CentSports account.

Not as much confidence in these bets, so I'm only going to put a dime on each.

I can't say I blame you.

But I kind of like betting all sports early in the season. If you can find a good angle, or have a good feeling about something, you can usually get a favorable line.

I have to think the Heat are going to be quite a bit better than the Knicks this season (even though neither will make the playoffs).

So to get points, that's tough to pass up.

The Sixers bet is really the one that could go either way. Toronto's arguably going to be right on the same level as them this season. I think I'm just banking on it being a tough place to open the season for the Raptors.

It wouldn't shock me at all of Toronto killed them tonight, though.

Plus it's only dimes. I'll wait until I start laying real money elsewhere.

you really dont see Wade, Marion, Beasley and Livingston carrying the Heat to a playoff spot in the weak ass East? I do. All they really lack is quality down low but not a lot of East teams have that anyway.

Right now I'd guess:
1) Boston
2) Cleveland
3) Philadelphia
4) Detroit
5) Toronto
6) Orlando
7) Washington
8) Atlanta

I'd probably put Miami at ninth. I could see them sneaking in to the 7th or 8th spot, I guess.

Your top 6 should be locks (I think Philly will make it, but not at 3), but those bottom two spots I feel like are wide open.

The good Eastern teams all have a strong inside presence.

Greg Oden got hurt three minutes into last night's game. Ya think it was two fluke injuries or is he injury prone already?

Bynum signs 4-year extension

The Los Angeles Lakers have reached an agreement on a four-year contract extension with center Andrew Bynum worth about $58 million, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing sources familiar with the negotiations.

The deal would keep Bynum under contract with the Lakers through the 2012-13 season, according to the report. The first three years of the deal are reportedly worth nearly $42 million, with a team option fourth year for about $16 million.

Bynum, who will earn $2.8 million this season, showed significant improvement for the Lakers in 2007-08 before being lost for about half of the season and the playoffs to an injury. His healthy return is one reason many observers are touting the Lakers as a favorite to return to the NBA Finals and win the championship.

the only thing that even seems good about it is, if kobe picks up the option, it locks bynum, gasol and kobe through the same year. However to the tune of about 60 mill for just those 3 guys

NEW YORK -- Your ears perked up the first time you heard it because, truthfully, you really couldn't believe your ears.

"We want Steph. We want Steph," a small portion of the crowd at Madison Square Garden chanted as New York was comfortably ahead late in the third quarter of what would eventually become a near collapse as the Mike D'Antoni era kicked off with a 120-115 victory Wednesday over the Miami Heat.

The chant broke out again early in the fourth, and your ears really perked up this time because of the way most of the crowd responded to the chant -- by drowning it out with boos.

good, fuck you steph

At least they should be fun to watch. I'm sure blowing the double digit leads wont change, because thats the kind of team the Knicks are. They get lazy when they build up a big lead. I really enjoy the play of Wilson Chandler. The fans were also very supportive of Galinari, when he took his first two shots everyone stood up, then they bricked and we all sat down.
