holy smoke this game is a mess, celtics have had one good stretch but other than that they look like the keystone cops.
luckily cleveland looks just as bad.
Epschtein

well, i would like to think after the terrible game ray and paul had that coming away with a win gives the celtics reason to be confident, in a way it does, but at the same time cleveland goes in the locker room and says "we almost beat them with NO scoring from lebron, if he gets hot thursday we crush these guys".
so other than the fact that it is 1-0 boston, this game didnt really prove anything. imo.

celtics are still worrying me in crunch time, bad shot selections on offense (particularly shooting too quick, pierce was guilty tonight), and looking like deers in the headlights on defense (multiple offensive rebounds by the other team and guys driving into the lane and getting right to the rim).
cant complain too much, they managed the win.
and kevin is correct, it was ugly.

wow, i figured orlando would have a good effort in them at home but that was a beating, did billups ever get back in the game? i got a work call and only had one eye on the game the whole second half.

just read that billups never returned and is questionable for game four, damn.
utah actually played pretty good tonight, they just could never get a stop when they needed to, they made a bunch of runs at the lakers but every time it got close the lakers ran off 4-6 points.

wow, i rarely complain about officiating but pierce just got HACKED on both forearms by two different guys and no call, he does try to sell some stuff so maybe he is getting a little backlash, he has not been getting a lot of calls in the playoffs so far.
yeah good game so far, ilgauskas is scary.
when ray finally makes a basket (hmm maybe i should say "if" hehe) that place is going to erupt.

How has Ray Allen still not scored a single point? Even I could do something that would at least get me to the foul line for a couple shots. Damn
Epschtein
05-08-2008, 04:37 PM
yeah really, he isnt even shooting, i think he has just 9 or 10 shots in a game and a half now, thank god pierce looks better tonight.
powe and cassell looking great again, there was a wild statistic heinsohn mentioned - in the playoffs, when posey is on the floor they are like +30, and when he isnt out there they are -25 or so, and that gap probably widened since he said it.
edit - there ya go ray! nice hustle to steal after his miss and put it back in, and then he comes right back down next time and takes it to the rack.
i wonder whats up with ben wallace? all i heard was that he got dizzy.

im enjoying it :P celtics D is off the hook.
i am getting worried that lebron is going to drop 127 on them in game 3 to make up for this hehe.
i had to switch to espn, heinsohn is such a homer it gets annoying, its funny mostly but sometimes he is just too much of a crybaby.

wow, how great was carlos boozer tonight? the only time i saw him in the regular season he played a great game too (think it was against the celtics maybe).
utah was in trouble with those turnovers late but boozer stepped up and put an end to that.
speaking of utah, anyone see that story on karl malone at espn.com this week? depressing, i had never heard that shit before.

Jesus, I had no idea about that. Sports Illustrated did a story about 10 years ago that kind of touched on players who were absentee fathers. (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/features/1998/weekly/980504/insidelook.html) As much as I loved him as a player, I was sad to read about Larry Bird not being a part of the life of his daughter Corrie.

If I recall, it was because (at the time) it would have been as lousy a situation in Boston as what he was dealing with in Minnesota. Add some other stars like Ray Allen and the young draft talent they got and it was a better fit this time.

lebron james over/under for tonight = 36. (i made that up)
i say over, place your bets.

05-12-2008, 06:46 PM
well, more of the same, obviously they are going to fall flat at home sooner or later, they just show no fight on the road, they wont work it down low, they start sulking and taking ridiculous shots...
its like two different teams, if they were just going out and losing to great efforts by the other team it would be one thing, cleveland played great but this game was right there for the celtics if they could just make a few shots or accept that they cant shoot on the road and work it down low.
ugly.

people are going to have a field day on garnett after this game, varejao fuckin' owned him in the post and scored some clutch baskets right over him too, what was up with KG not even leaving his feet when lebron went in for that highlight dunk? he just pushed him on the hip as lebron flew over him, completely unacceptable (should have been called for a foul too).
pierce = invisible.
allen = may as well stay home if he is going to play like this.
rondo finally started making some shots thankfully, so what does doc do? take him out... wtf?
the little slack that they are getting right now is all going to disappear once they lose a game at home, there is huge potential for them to get blown out wednesday. imo.

that little bald dude reffing the hornets game right now must love the cock lol, he is always putting both of his hands on coaches/players sides/hips when talking with them and he gets way in close.
he just got real close to popovich and started poking him in the chest and popovich swatted his hand away, they got a little heated after that and that little fucker kept putting his finger right in popovich's face then called a T on him to boot.
that guy needs to hit some cuddle parties and chill out.

this game sucks. So sloppy, the whole series. Boston has been better in the second half but cleveland has been AWFUL
Epschtein
05-14-2008, 05:50 PM
i thought it was sloppy too early on, but im inclined to think it has been more defensive now.
cleveland's defense has been really good, if the celtics arent going to get hot from outside then they will keep leaving them open to shoot and pack the lane, which has led to an incredible amount of sloppy looking drives by boston because nobody wants to shoot.
i agree tho that if boston loses tonight its probably over friday, but then again maybe its the wakeup call they need, idk. before this series i dont think anyone would have argued that boston wasn't more talented and deeper. they are choking on the road, i hate to say it but it is the most appropriate term.

surely the celtics will lose one at home at some point right?
by the same token they have to win one on the road sooner or later no?

If the Celtics think they can get by playing the Pistons as they have in the first two rounds, they're wrong and this series will be easy to predict. The Pistons will win in 5 or 6.
I like the Hornets tonight simply because home court, while always a huge advantage, has gone to astronomical levels this postseason. The home teams won by double digits every game this series.
But I got money on the Lakers to win it all so lets go Mamba!

Also, everyone harps on the 37 win thing. The Hawks were a completely different team after the Mike Bibby trade. And may be a top 4-5 team come next year.
Its still no excuse for the Celtics to lose all the road games to them, but the Hawks were and are a much better team than anyone wants to give them credit for.

The prob with Pistons is not talent. Its sometimes they don't give a shit. Last year they took Bron for granted and mailed it in.
They will give a shit vs Bos.
They'll both take turns not giving a shit. This could either be one of the best series ever or one of the worst.
I'm really excited to see who can out-badly coach the other in the historic matchup of Doc Rivers and Flip Saunders. This could be the biggest matchup of two of the Greatest Teams Coached By Really, Really, REALLY Awful Coaches of All Time.
Also, the Celtics have Doc Rivers as coach.
I just wanted to highlight the fact that Doc Rivers can't coach.
Garnett is unselfish to the point of being detrimental to the team. He's soft. It sucks.
He should have been shooting 30 times a game vs Cleveland, but instead he'd take like 15 jump shots from outside the foul line a game. Boo.
Indeed. And the lack of creating lanes and driving to the basket had me screaming at the TV in Game 6 of the Cleveland series. Pierce finally did it in Game 7 but Doc's half-assed, inconsistent offenses are infuriating. ATTACK THE FUCKING BASKET.

The NBA fucked New Orleans. How does a game 6 take place on Thursday and the game 7 on Monday? San Antonio had way too much time to prepare for the NOOCH. If that game is Saturday night, I think New Orleans has a much better chance.

He really needs to step up. His shitty play is affecting the whole team, they aren't playing him as close as they used to and are doubling up more on Pierce or Garnett.

ALLEN: Well, let's stop using the phrase "Big Three" then. I'm not that type of player anymore -- really, I'm a spot-up jump shooter and that's it, and if I don't have my legs for a road game, I'm useless. There's not a ton of difference between me and Szczerbiak at this point. Two years from now, they'll be changing my name to "Ray Allen's Expiring Contract" unless somebody gives me a bionic pair of ankles.
DOC: What are you suggesting?

He's been having some issues with ESPN censoring his content. Also, earlier in the year, he lined up a podcast with Barak Obama, but ESPN stepped in and wouldn't let him do it. They're probably waiting for Chris Berman to interview him after he comes up with a funny nickname for him.
He hasn't really been writing new content for Page 2 in a while, other than his magazine columns. Then he opened a blogspot and started posting his old stuff there, and some jabs at ESPN like :
I thought it would be fun to post some of my old columns from the "Boston Sports Guy" site (where I wrote columns from May '97 to June '01), if only because none of them have a home on the internet right now. This particular one was written right as I was starting to find a groove and my column was starting to resemble what it's like now, only if nobody was killing five of the best jokes or making me re-write them so they weren't as funny

ok lets break this down a little bit. Miami especially. Shaq was decent but he wasnt a top 5 or prob top 10 player at that point. And Wade is good, but he aint kobe.
Every title I can think of that Phil Jackson won, he had the BEST PLAYER in the game, and a second guy who was pretty close. I dont consider tony parker and manu ginobli all time top 50 players how Jackson ALWAYS had 2 until this year. This year, if the Lakers win, I'll be impressed. But I havent been in the past.
Gimmie Shaq 7 years ago with Kobe and I'll win a ton of them too

I agree with snoogan's assessment.
Miami had Wade who is nowhere near Kobe status and an old Shaq. Spurs have Duncan, but parker and manu are not top 50 all time players.
Bulls he had Jordan and Pippen(who was a top 50 at the time because of the style he played a point forward that could guard any position on the floor). Then he had Horace Grant or Rodman who could grab the rebounds needed and he had the shooters for Pippen and Jordan to kick out too.
Lakers he had Shaq when he was good and a young Kobe who dominated. Now he has Kobe and Gasol and a few other key players.
Spurs succeeded not because they had 2 top players but because they worked well as a unit. Same thing when the Pistons one. But whenever Jackson has won he has had two top players and nothing less.

i swear it comes down to rondo, not that it is surprising that you need your point guard to be a major factor, but i swear more than anything else the wins and losses come down to his play.
they have won without pierce scoring, without ray scoring, without good bench play, without great defense, but i dont think they have won a game where rondo didnt play his "good" game where he is a little flashy, cutting and rebounding, way uptempo...
he does get carried away at times, last night when they had the 20+ lead he got really sloppy, but i dont think they can win without him being a little cocky and making shit happen.
(ok now maybe im getting carried away lol, i dont think rondo had a good game the night pierce went off, probably more hinges off their defense and opponent shot percentage)
i will tell you tho, it is painful to me watching sam cassell bring the ball up hehe. when his shot is on he has contributed tho.
edit - btw i really like detroit, they werent hitting shots last night but all their guys are confident and can hit midrange jumpers, when they are hot its damn impressive, everyone is dangerous.
So, yeah. There's the road win.

Crawford has a history with Duncan - he was almost fired for calling a technical on Duncan while he was on the bench.
Yes, he needed to jump into Fisher to get the shooting foul, but at a minimum it was a clear foul - a foul is a foul regardless of when, who, what, etc. - before the shot and he could have tied it at the line.

I really enjoyed Garnett being interviewed on court and not caring at all that they had won. He kept mentioning how their goals weren't complete, there was still another series to go.
Then I remembered watching Doc Rivers running across the court screaming like a little kid, like they had just won the championship. That scares me.

He was happy because it meant he kept his job a little while longer.

this was from the end of Simmons' chat today and I found it hilarious:
I'm a senior in high school and my friends and I love to play a game called KG that. It's when you take something ordinary and go crazy over it. For example, we went out for Chinese last Friday and after one of my friends ordered his beef and broccoli i told him he should KG it when it comes. When the waiter brought out his beef, he got up on his chair and started pounding his chest screaming "THATS HOW YOU ORDER CHINESE" he then ran around high fiving random people while pounding his chest and screaming. We ended up getting kicked out, but I'd say it was worth it.

why the lakers are calling bullshit on pierce's injury is beyond me, as if he wanted to leave the game for any amount of time in a tight game just to fake some drama. and by all accounts he was taking baby steps after the game when he had sat for a while and it stiffened up.

Check out the Detroit Red Wings records from the 70's and 80's when they were referred to as the "Dead Things." I remember one season in the mid-80's where they finished with 40 points in 80 games.

I had almost forgot about this. The quotes are so hilariously accurate :
It was the Lakers' first game since trading Shaquille O'Neal to the Miami Heat for three players.
"He's going to be very selfish," Allen said of Bryant on Oct. 13. "And he feels like he needs to show this league and the people in this country that he is better without Shaq. So offensively, he's going to jump out and say, 'I can average 30 points. I can still carry the load on this team.'
"(But) can you win a championship? I think that's the question. Carrying guys on your back and making everybody better."
Allen continued that if Bryant didn't recognize the need to have teammates step forward into starring roles, it would lead to unhappiness.
"If Kobe doesn't see he needs two and a half good players to be a legitimate playoff contender or win a championship in about a year or two he'll be calling out to Jerry Buss that 'We need some help in here,' or 'Trade me,' " Allen said. "And we'll all be saying, 'I told you so,' when he says that."
