Is there anything in Providence??

I have to attend a wedding soon in Providence, RI.......
Not my ideal travel destination, but it's not my wedding....

So is there anything interesting to see or do around that area?
I will probably go to Boston during the trip, as I have never been there....

I am into History so I know Boston will be good.

But seriously, they've remade downtown Providence into a really nice, small city. There's a bunch of good restaurants and a beautiful riverwalk. Its much nicer in the summer than in the winter, obviously.

Also, in Providence is a strip club known as Club Fantasies. It is the single greatest strip club in the history of strip clubs.

I don't know too much about Providence, but Battleship Cove is not far away in Fall River. I mentioned it in another thread.

Newport is pretty cool too and not real far away.

As a native Rhode Islander I can tell you that there's not a while lot to do in Providence. But here are a few suggestions:

- Art: The Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) Museum is a nice small museum

- Go to College Hill and hand out with the Ivy Leaguers from Brown and stop by the John Browne House

- Roger Williams Park Zoo - it's gotten a lot better over the years and has the largest Botanical Garden in New England

- Providence Place Mall - your usual big mall

- The State House - they give tours during the week and when I was in school (many years ago) every high school student in the state was required to take a field trip to the capital. It has the fourth largest marble dome in the world.

Slater Mill in Pawtucket (next city over) was the first mill in the U.S. and helped start the Industrial Revolution.

If you're looking for good pizza, go to Caserta's on Federal Hill (the Italian section). YO can also spend time just strolling around Federal Hill.

If you're driving up from the south (or coming from the airport) be sure to keep you eyes out for the big Blue Bug. It will be on your left as you go into the Thurbers Ave. curve on Route 95. It a famous Rhode Island landmark. Oh, and have a coffee shake at McDonald's or a coffee awful-awful at Newport Creamery!

And if you have time, a trip to Newport and Fall River are good bets too.

Ahh, Newport Creamery. Delicious! Also, it's probably a little on the cold side, but try to get your hands on a Del's Frozen Lemonade. Mmm mmm good.

I think he might have been going to the one in Brockton, also. Which has since closed down. I think he was keeping it in business.

When he came back as an Angel and the strippers were in the stands with the signs saying how much they missed him, I think that was the best thing that's ever happened.

I think Fantasies is the place i went to last year for a Bachelor party and it was pretty fantastic. Better than that VIP dump.
