I'm so happy for Bay. Seeing him play the Cubs all those years, I had nothing but respect for how he played the game and how reliable a hitter he is, plus he's great in the field. I always wished the Cubs could hae somehow gotten him, but I'm glad he's out of the basement and getting the attention he deserves. A great, great baseball player.

Go ahead run 90 feet away, 1 out.

The next 2 batters have a chance to bring this game back to Anaheim. Hit a fly ball. Get a base hit. An infield dribbler to the right side... SOMETHING, ANYTHING.

BUT A FUCKING SQUEEZE PLAY?!?!?! SERIOUSLY!? WITH YOUR WHOLE SEASON ON THE LINE?!?! YOU GO FOR A FUCKING SQUEEZE!?

Mike Scioscia should be fired on the spot, Grady Little style. That is fucking inexcusable.

Bay is on 3rd or scored on an in the park-er off of his bloop hit if Vlad is out there.

I say this thinking I saw the ball hit the fielder's glove before it bounced it. I think he pushed it towards the crowd.

Yea, I couldn't believe they were trying that. Thankfully the ump called him out before the ball came out of Tek's glove.

I think they called it an out because the runner didn't cause the ball to come out. If the runner had bowled over the catcher and then the ball came out, they probably would have called it the other way.

I think the idea of Wake in game one or 2 is good. He's pitched very well in the dome in Tampa, but after that I think they have to set the rotation so that Lester will pitch at least twice if the series goes to 7.

Friday 10th - Dice-K (at TB)
Saturday 11th - Wake (at TB)
Monday 13th - Lester (at Bos)
Tuesday 14th - Beckett (at Bos)
Thursday 16th Dice-K (at Bos)
Saturday 18th Wake (at TB)
Sunday 19th Lester (at TB)

good luck in the World Series

I know that's a curse joke, but seriously, who among us wasnt getting that old, almost forgotten, feeling of a curse during that final game? Pedroia, our mvp, cant hit, Masterson misses VTeks glove? Mike Lowell...Even when the ball came out of Teks glove on that tag... It was just an eerie feeling to feel that way again. So fucking happy it all worked out.

Now, we have to give credit where credit is due: Coco Crisp seemed to know from the outset that tampa would be our newest biggest rivals. Cant wait to see if shields has been training! If we can make it there, we can make it anywhere!

We beat the angels, now on to beat the devils!!!

Oh, and mlb.com is confirming Wake will indeed pitch game 4...at home.

Rotation for the ALCS:

Matsuzaka
Beckett
Lester
Wakefield

OGC
10-10-2008, 11:24 AM
From the soxanddawgs website:

Boston Red Sox skipper Terry Francona and the brain trust have put together the 25-man roster for the 2008 American League Championship Series against the Tampa Bay Rays that they think will get the job done in the best-of-7 series that starts Friday night in St. Petersburg, FL.

PITCHERS (11): Josh Beckett, Paul Byrd, Manny Delcarmen, Jon Lester, Javier Lopez, Justin Masterson, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Hideki Okajima, Jonathan Papelbon, Mike Timlin, Tim Wakefield.

CATCHERS (3): Kevin Cash, David Ross, Jason Varitek.

INFIELDERS (6): Sean Casey, Alex Cora, Jed Lowrie, David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis.

OUTFIELDERS (5): Jason Bay, Coco Crisp, J.D. Drew, Jacoby Ellsbury, Mark Kotsay.

So what’s different here than their roster in the ALDS?
For starters, Mike Lowell is not on the roster since he’s not eligible because he was removed from the ALDS roster. Gil Velazquez, who was added to the ALDS roster when Lowell was removed, did not make the roster as the Red Sox decided to go with 11 pitchers. This means Mike Timlin is on the roster.

No big surprises here, although I can't say I am eager for Mike Timlin to get into a game. Hopefully he will prove me wrong.

I remember (barely) being in Brazil last year, and being up at 430am, watching the international sports report, waiting for them to come around to America...and 3 out of 4 times, theyd talk about American SOCCER scores. Awful.
I'd usually end up passing out and going to the internet cafe the next day to check the scores.

Anywho... it felt like the ghost of Grady Little was managing that 8th inning, but he got out of it ok.

That pitch at Drew was not intentional, unlike the one at Manny earlier in the day.

Timlin took over the spot from Gagne last year of the human victory cigar. He is the pitching equivalant of waving the white flag or tapping out.

Besides him though, has anyone noticed the rest of the bullpen has been great the entire playoffs? Okajima pitched great in relief last night and Masterson has really impressed me also.

im loving the fact that manny was all fired up the other night and looking to throw down, its going to make it even more enjoyable to see his face when they get sent packing.

he is a goddamn monster since he went out there tho, too bad he took a dive to get out of town, i never made excuses for him during all his antics but i also never really got pissed off at him. but what he did at the end in boston has really made it hard for me not to hate on him.

i remember dave saying the other day how stupid the sox were to trade him, i dont think a lot of people outside boston really understand what went on. tim mccarver was right, it was despicable.

From MLB:

Eleven out of the 15 teams that have held a 3-1 lead in the ALCS since 1985 have gone on to the World Series. Three of the four times, it was the Red Sox -- 1986, 2004 and '07 -- that came back.

After winning Game 1 behind a dazzling pitching performance by Daisuke Matsuzaka, it's hard to believe the Red Sox would be stuck in this position. Then again, they beat the Indians in Game 1 behind an equally impressive performance by Josh Beckett last year before losing the next three. Beckett started the road to recovery a year ago by firing a gem in Game 5, and now it will be up to Matsuzaka to do the same.

Nah, I still think you'd have to favor the Rays, but I think it'd go seven at that point.

It's Lester in a possible Game 6 and Beckett in a possible Game 7, right?

Nobody knows what, if anything, Beckett has left.

But, we're getting WAY ahead of ourselves...

I am ashamed to say I had given up on this team. I saw the two spot put up in the first and thought it was over early. Then the Rays tack on three more and I stop paying attention because its just baseball and I shouldn't get so pissed off about it.

If you told me at the beginning of the year that they would have to win two games with Beckett and Lester pitching and I would like my chances and I still do, recent results be damned. No matter what happens I am proud of this team for not quitting when it would have been easy to do so.

Didn't hear that, but having Abreau on your team isn't much except a drain on your payroll. We tried it in Philly, and I have to say after he left Burrell woke up and Howard became our cleanup guy. Abreau was a big fish in a small pond while in Philly.

Who knows? He could be great for Chicago though. But Fukodome's performance shouldn't be judged by this post-season. He's not that bad imo.

And I don't see Zambrano going anywhere either. When the Cubs come to Philly and he's in the rotation, he scares the shit out of me.

I'll be stunned if Fukudome isn't significantly better next season. That sad, even with optimistic projections, his numbers look much better in CF ad aren't good enough for a corner OFer. The big talk is Hendry wants Adam Dunn over anyone else in terms of FA signings. While the defense of Sori and Dunn is scary, the 80+ HR's they'd hit between them is delicious.

How could they not duplicate it again next season?

They're absolutely loaded.

And the Yankees could end up pretty much in the same boat as this season. The free agent market. Unless they're going to drop $25 million on Sabathia and another $20 million or so on Teixeira, and then find another outfielder, and then repair their bullpen, it's going to be a struggle for them again.

They'll have everyone back, except maybe Baldelli.

And add David Price, who is EASILY the best pitching prospect in baseball to the rotation next year, with Garza, Kazmir, and Shields, and thats going to be pretty damn tough.
