im not going to get excited about possibly catching the rays yet, still a longshot.

but this was a huge win in the wild card race, sox are sitting pretty right now. no way both central teams pass them... is there? hehehe.

I agree they are sitting pretty good. But only one of the central teams has to pass them to knock them out of the playoffs .

Since I'm in Florida at the moment, I painfully asked the bartender to put on the Yanks/Rays game. 6-1 NY in the 4th...

And wishing death on the Giants.

Anyone else think that OB might have tipped his hand during the ESPN broadcast last night? How could anyone not figure out what his day job is?

Tampa Bay loses to Toronto 6-4 tonight. Sox up 5-0 after 5. Lowell with 3 RBI. Looks like it may be a good night in the Nation...

joeyballsack
09-05-2008, 05:45 PM
Tampa Bay losing, Sox are winning, Beckett threw 80 pitches with 7 K's, back to back triples so its a good night all around so far.

The Sox have Lester, Dice K and Beckett scheduled for that Tampa Bay series, so a sweep in Texas would put all kinds of pressure on those kids in first.

Sox are looking good, this was a great way to comeback for Lowell and Beckett!

hypothetically, if i knew the sox were going to win the world series - i would root for tampa bay to hold on in a close race and win themselves a division title, as long as they arent playing the red sox i like that team...

Once the devils scored in the 13th I "knew" it was over...

About half an hour later, I looked on my phone to certify the Jays' loss..and did a double take spit take!!! 7-4??!! Wow. And today, they did it again! I just hope theyre not this good when we meet em next.

With today's Red Sox win, this September series against Tampa actually means something! Youd think Selig was writing this, for God's sake. No one would believe it though!

Or, better yet...is Coco Crisp from the future??? He seemed to know something was up with the devils this year early on.... hmmmmmmmm.....

Speaking of Coco... he's been on fire...almost chompin at the bit. LOOK OUT SHIELDS!!!

What a great time of year this is! Football schmootball.

The New England area might be able to continue its focus on the Red Sox now that their football season is over prematurely.

I can't wait to see how the Rays play this week. It will be interesting to see if they can deal with the pressure of coming into Fenway with the Sox right on their heels.

I was thinking the same thing, watching this update slowly on my Iphone at work.
I couldnt believe we had come back and beaten the demons!!!!!!!!

And Papelbon was closing!! We're in first!! We're in FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!

This loss literally broke my heart. It's like when a girl breaks up with you and you never saw it coming. I went from such sheer happiness to utter disappointment in a matter of seconds.
Then--there was the possibility that she might still wanna hang out sometime, Kotsay got on and Big Papi comes to the plate! But she says "No Means No"! And storms away.

I thought it was odd that they waited til Papi failed before they replaced Kotsay with Ellsbury.
Had he been allowed to steal 2nd, then reach 3rd on an error BEFORE Papi got up...things MIGHTVE turned out differently.

But yeah, just like a bad breakup, I have a sour feeling in the pit of my stomach, and I'm awake alone at night, thinking about the what ifs.

Beckett vs Sonnenstine tomorrow... I dunno if I'm ready. It's too soon.

Too bad the Jays comeback came up just short or they'd be heading in only 6 back. Knowing they are 7 behind Boston, with 7 to play H2H, it's not over......even if it's VERY close. Yet I'm surprised to be this close. 11 in a row for the Jays would have been sweet.

As for the comeback, the Jays were down 6-2 top 9 and plated 3 (6-5) with a runner on 3rd (tying run). Rios got rung up on a check swing (ump got caught up in the home crowd noise and called him out even though he clearly didn't go). FUCK.

My problem with people attacking the area and fans of Florida is that the league got what it wants. It puts such an emphasis on the big teams, that most people down their fall into their camps. Also, you can't have a team literally suck ass for years and expect a team to be "great fans" based on the one fleeting year of "everything goes right Marlins-style" baseball. They've lived it and got burned that way as well.

Sorry MLB, upset fans outside of Florida, they shouldn't care. In fact, if Florida can sell out for hockey even with an awful team (not always but often), this proves to me it's a league issue. And you all know what I think of baseball.

I have to give the Red Sox credit. As a Yankee fan, it goggles my mind why my team can never beat the Angels, yet the Red Sox can.

The Yankees can go toe to toe with Boston every year, but always get dominated by the Angels who always get annoying hits after hits after hits against the Yanks. But against the Red Sox (especially in the playoffs) ALL OF A SUDDEN the Angels can't do stuff!!! And that annoys me.

I guess in baseball, there will always be that one team that always has your number.

The Rays scare the shit out of me. They remind me of the 2004 Sox: carefree and playing with the house's money.

esp with the sox pitching. The Rays, all year, just have made people pay for any mistakes they made against them. And after Beckett's bullpen "injury", I dont know what to expect from him. Lester had a great outting but didnt look lights out, gave up alot of hits, the angels just couldnt get big hits.

Not gonna act like I have ANY confidence. Shit, after this season, part of me still expects anaheim to show up at some point.

The Sox are very cabable of beating the Rays if it comes down to that. Most of their head to head games have been close ones that could have went either way.

I don't know if I buy the injury thing with Beckett. It wouldn't suprise me a bit if they just decided to switch Lester to the #1 guy since he has been their most consistent pitcher all year. That saves face for Beckett and now he is in the position of pitching the clinching game of the series.

I have been surprised how much Tito has relied on Masterson in the pen instead of Delcarmen and Lopez. It really shows how much he has impressed the coaching staff to put a rookie in that position.

Sox played like crap, lucky it took so long for the Angels to finally get a runner home.

though i do appreciate that, the catcher is retarded. During most of those sequences, even alot of the pitches guys missed, they were on it. They werent mixing up the pitches well enough. With the exception of the Youk at bat. Luckily for anaheim, KRod can make up for some mistakes

That's for sure. With any kind of good play the Sox would have scored only one run. That 3 run bloop gift was an embarrassment.

Lowell is out. Paps is out. The bullpen is tired from last night.

I think I'm about to have a Maalox moment.

Poor Mikey :(

While I admire the heart that Lowell showed by trying to play, I think the team as a whole is better off right now with Youklis playing third. There were a couple of plays last night that a healthy Mike Lowell makes no problem and he couldn't come through. It was also rough to watch him at the plate, grimacing after every check swing.

Hopefully they can get a good outing out of Lester tonight and wrap this baby up. I don't like the chances of having to win a game 5 in Anaheim.

I didn't get that either. He was cruising along pretty well and hadn't lost any velocity on his pitches.

Holy shit that was a big play by Tek putting the tag on Willits, now let's hope someone gets a pitch to crush and we can all go to bed somewhat early tonight.
