Oh, definitely.

And rolling onto the ball this year? Hysterical.

But even then he counters that with his bitchin' catch off the wall (against the Orioles), high-fiving the fan and then doubling off the baserunner.

Yea, funny stuff. This is all boris. He lost Arod as his big money puppet, so he went to Manny. Manny really changed since signing with that dirtbag. If Arod at 32 in his prime could not get what he wanted, then a declining Manny at 36, will not come close.

I think just because he's so aloof all the time in the field (like last night flashing the two out sign after making the first out) that people think he sucks in the field. But no one will run on the guy.

How was his assist ratio, home to road? Was it a product of the fenway LF, or was it his arm?

He's got a good arm. Nothing too special, but it was helped by the Monster and his smart playing and then on the road when people assumd he couldn't do anything without the Monster.

Assists are usually a bad measure of an outfielder's arm. If someone has a good arm, no one runs on him, therefore he doesn't get that many assists.

But I wouldn't doubt his arm strength illusion was a product of Fenway, but the illusion of it just carried to other stadiums and people stopped running on him.

as a 10-5 player couldn't manny veto any trade he didn't like? shenanigans!

By that time he had already signed away his right to veto a trade in exchange for the Red Sox signing away their right to pick up his option at the end of the year.

Well..the next two months should be a good judge of how good a fielder Manny can be. I dont know if you can accurately compare anyone playing off the Wall to a fielder anywhere else since you dont really have to have much range.

If you can read the bounces effectively then your going to be adequate playing left in Fenway. I think a lot of Manny's assists come from visting teams not being able to get a good read off the Monster and trying to get one too many bases.

You do realize Manny's fielding stats and ratings also came from playing half of the season away from Fenway and the Monster, right?

He was also much better than just an "adequate" defender at Fenway, and on the road.

He didn't unconditionally waive it, he got the Sox to waive the right to pick up the option at the end of the year. That way when he was traded, the team he went to didn't have any option to renew him at the end of the season. It would be my guess that the Sox told him it would be either the Dodgers or the Marlins and Manny agreed to those two teams.

Manny wanted to be a free agent at the end of the year. He was willing to quit on his teammates and complain about the ownership that has bent over backwards to accommodate him.

Then the same media was trying to get everyone to cheer for Johnny Damon when he came back.

Since I was not in on the discussions I can only talk about what I have read in the media. Show me where anyone gave the impression that Manny had waived the no trade across the board. And then show me where he has done anything other than behave like a spoiled child who didn't get his way. I bet his next ploy would be to hold his breath until he turned blue.

I've been a big Manny fan since he came to town, I found ways to ignore the childish behavior over the years, but sooner or later, most people will get tired of being shit on.

Nomar was traded half a season after he didn't accept an offer from the Sox that turned out to be much better than anything he has seen since. Looking at the value he has returned since he left, it is a good thing he was traded.

Pedro was also offered a fairly good deal but he went to the Mets because he got an extra year that the Sox didn't think was a good gamble based on his condition. Considering how much time he has spent on the disabled list with the Mets, I would say that the Sox called that one right.

A 32 -pitch inning isn't good but to but to be fair, the D let him down last night. There was that one inning when Pedroia booted a ball. Then Lowrie did the same which blew a sure DP. Then the wild pitch which moved the runners. These stupid mistakes are getting them into holes they have problems climbing out of.

Plus they are just awful on the road.

If you kick Buck to the bullpen, this is where we may get to see how valuable that Bartolo Colon pickup was.

Red Sox like Rangers catcher
Posted: Monday August 11, 2008 06:12AM ET
The Rangers might provide the Red Sox a chance to acquire a young catcher this offseason. The Sox really like Taylor Teagarden, a righthanded hitter, but the Rangers might hang on to him. That could allow the Rangers to deal Jarrod Saltalamacchia to the Sox. The Sox tried to acquire Saltalamacchia at last season's trading deadline, but the big switch-hitting catcher went to Texas from Atlanta in the Mark Teixeira deal. The Sox might just have to give up a top pitching prospect to solidify their future catching depth (http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/mlb?cnn=yes).

My guess is he started worrying when they drafted not one but two shortstops this year.

Jon Lester into the eighth, what can I say? Amazing.
A little scary after he left, but it all worked out.

Not sure how I feel about the other refugees yet, but we can always use another true Sox fan!

Everytime I heard an "update" on Yaz last night, I thought for sure it was gonna be the big D, just the way the announcers sounded.

And as for DiceK, he's always pitched better with men on base...
sometimes I think he does it on purpose. He likes the drama or something.

Buccholz, yeah...um...well, he's not in my fantasy league lineup,
but John Farrell must think he's got it in him, and just needs to click...

They really don't want to switch Masterson back over this year especially with the way he's mowing guys down. Althought I do believe (and apparently quite a number of guys in the dougout) that he should be starting in the future. Buch has got to do something tonight, he pitched well in relief in the blowout game sunday. In a perfect world where there rotation is intact, he's in Pawtucket.

Colon won't be back for awhile, something about eating a batboy and getting cramps between innings. Clay really needs to go back down. I got faith that he'll make it (Remember how hard it was to watch Lester pitch all of last year and the first few starts this year) but it isn't happening now.

So Cancer makes you have insanely slow pace and makes you afraid to attack the strike zone? He had the same issues before the cancer. It was called him being a young pitcher. I agree that Clay needs to bulk up a bit.

This'll be the last time playing in Ruth's house. Kinda sad.

UNLESS-- As long as we can turn it on after this series, we let the yanks sweep us this time.
That would increase chances for our annual October meetings, which, lets face it, we all look forward to.

Even though we see eachother again at the very end of September, which is kinda like October...

I dunno. The most interesting game looks to be Wake vs. pettit. Especially if Wake has his stuff. Sox do well against pettit. But the reason itll be cool is because, these 2 pitchers have seen the rivalry over the years at yankee stadium. And it may be the last time they face eachother there. Would Ortiz or Youk ever get booed by the hometown Boston fans ? I have never been to a game at Fenway, so how often do the fans boo the hometown team ?

You wouldn't be able to tell with Youk.

Ask Keith Foulke or J.D. Drew about booing in Boston

Run support always helps Wake's cause.

I just hope Byrd doesn't give up 2 homers in the first couple of innings like his previous 2 starts.

There are talks of the Sox looking to acquire Mark Kotsay from the Braves. He cleared waivers, but has a no-trade clause. Sox are shopping once again as JD Drew is now on the DL with a back strain

Looks like a done deal for a Single A prospect.

Pedroia has to be in the running for MVP.

I never thought I would feel sorry for Yankee fans, but I remember when the Yanks just crushed the Sox in August a few years back what a sick feeling I had.

I imagine they are feeling a lot like that.

yeh i dont see anyone on the rays getting the mvp, maybe if longo wasnt a rookie he'd get some consideration

so its prob gonna come down to ortiz or someone on the angels, vlad or k-rod maybe

If K-Rod gets the all time saves record and piles a good 5 or more saves on it I could see him get it.

After Pedroia's slam, they had a shot of the Red Sox dugout and Kotsay had a big smile on his face. He looked like a kid in a candy shop.

It must be an odd feeling to go from 15 games out to the middle of a pennant race so quickly.

he only needs, what 7 more to tie ??

and he has roughly 30 games left in the season

so i think baring injury he'll get the record and at least 60 saves

Were any of those guys closers though ?

A DH has more impact on games day to day than a closer does and there still hasn't been a full time DH to win MVP. K-Rod is great, but if he wins MVP there is something wrong with the system.

i can see the argument for k-rod as if he didnt convert those saves then the angels dont win but they lead the divison by fucking 16 games

kinda hard to give it to him under that scenario, if they were to win the divison by 1 or 2 games and everyone of those saves mattered then yes give it to him
