Nah, found it on BostonDirtDogs.com
Either way I stole it from you..Don't be surprised if you see me using it sometime..
Stupid asshole fans went nuts everytime there was a flyball hit. Had to keep turning around fast from my computer to see if it was a homer. That's because they're not used to seing a batted bell leave the infield..

That or they are accustomed to the smaller japanese balls(no joke) that tend leave the park easier. I thought manny's was gone for sure.

Oh yeah..I stand corrected....Last time I make a joke on this thread..
On a serious note.. You guys worried that Dice is still not showing the control he should have to be a #1 #2, or do you guys just chalk it up to it being early plus the whole trip and circumstances?
"Yes."
It's probably only because of the pressure of Opening Day and because he's such star over in Japan (the pressure to perform flawlessly).
“Given the opportunity to start on opening day, I did feel a little nervous and a little excited and that might have shown,” said Matsuzaka, who signed a $52 million, six-year contract with Boston before last season after eight years with the Seibu Lions. “I’d like to apologize to all the fans who turned out and wanted to see me go deep in the game.”
Please don't commit hari-kari, Dice-K!

Posted this in the Yankee thread, but its has the same importance here. Its a article about both teams draft since 05.
Link (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/tom_verducci/03/25/rivalry0331/index.html)
Since 2005 the Yankees and the Red Sox have continued to sink more money into scouting and the draft. Says one rival AL G.M., "They've become what the U.S. and Russia were during the cold war: There is them, and there's everybody else. My goodness, the Yankees took a guy in the first round [Andrew Brackman in 2007] who needed Tommy John surgery, and they gave him a four-year major league contract. Nobody else can do that."

Hey ya buddays..Looking to go 2-0..Ahem....I mean 161-0..Getting our first look at Coco..I guess his back isn't that bad..<<<LETS PLAY SOME MONEY BALL>>>

Well, it was Drew who had back problems yesterday.
Coco just sucks.
Lester's looking good!
Kevin

One worry i would have with your team.. Beckett seems like the only guy that could go consistently deep into games.. Dice k throws a million pitches and you cant expect the youngsters to go deep either, your pen could get over worked this year. Dice only lasted 5, now Lester has 55 and counting in the 3rd.. Its early, but i would be a little worried. We may have the same probs if Pettite isnt healthy.

Agreed. Pitching continues to be our biggest problem.
God forbid any (more) injuries occur on our tenuous pitching roster.
Yet, we're favored to repeat, mostly due to our amazing defense which supports those pitchers, and frankly, the pitchers need to incorporate into their pitch count plan a little more.

Yea, they seem to nibble alot. With your D, just put it into play, most times than not, you will get outs.

Manuel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
With that homerun, he may end up being player of the game again today.
He was yesterday, and as he received his 10,000 dollar check, he said he was gonna spend the money on gas. lol.
Is Varitek going to strike out everytime at bat this year? Jesus.
ChrisTheCop
03-26-2008, 04:32 AM
He's got his hands full managing the bullpen,
but yeah, he could hit the cages a bit.
I see good things coming this inning; Pedroia, Youkilis, Ortiz....

.....ok...apparently.
So much for an unbeaten season. lol.
Anywho... this was cool. Kinda makes opening day feel even more special when you have to get up way early for it. 2 great games on a 69 inch screen while eating scrambled eggs, bagels and coffee. I think thats a first for me.

Five Questions: Boston Red Sox (http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/five-questions-boston-red-sox3/)
Looking for bounce back years from Lugo/Drew. Varitek is slowing down, starting pitching is unknown after Dice-K and Beckett. Overall, they look for a playoff return in 08.

Finally a game in a halfway normal time.
Good job by Lester, Papi, and Tek.
Nothing to watch tonight but the Revs.
Lester looked great yesterday. I was a little concerned that it was going to be a wasted effort because the offense kept leaving men on base. Papi's homer broke it open.
And another Manny moment -- watching him stand at the plate thinking he homered.

I went to the Paw Sox opener tonight and Colon looked great.
Boston.com:
He threw 45 of 74 pitches for strikes and topped out at 96 mph.
Colon allowed only one hit, a second-inning single by Adam Boeve, who was erased on a double play. He walked one, struck out five and ended by blowing a 95 mph fastball past Kevin Thompson for the last out in the fifth.
Colon threw as many as three balls only three times, once in the first inning and twice in the fifth.

Buckner throws out first pitch as Red Sox hand out bling (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3335928)
Good. Since 1986, I've hated the blame Buckner has gotten for missing that grounder. Fucking Calvin Schiraldi and Bob Stanley blew that game (plus Clemens pussied out). Buckner put them in that series that year and I'm glad to see him finally get some love at Fenway.

Buckner coming out for the first pitch was a a great moment. But when he joined Don and Jerry during an inning it was god awful. I guess that happens when you avoid the media for 20 years.
Yeah his post-game press conference with Dewey was a little rough too. Maybe he's not a great public speaker but to be fair, I think he was just emotionally overwhelmed. I don't think he expected that kind of warm reception.

I really think this could take off..
If we could get a Masshole (jk) to find out if there are any weekend dates with a block of seats available, we'd be right as rain..
I think we should try and get an Idea of how many NY/NJ guys would be interested..Maybe then we'd be better prepared to make a ticket purchase.. Additionally, there may be some hotel rooms that need to be reserved...
No one on this board will acknowledge that I even exsist.. (can't say as I blame them..I do act like a dick a good part of the time)...So me running an outing is probably not gonna generate the same type of allure that someone like you would.. Maybe if you started a thread to feel out interest and I worked behind the scenes, we could get this dog to hunt..Feel free to PM me..Acually could you PM me either way, just so I can get a PM in my PMbox..

That Shawn Casey signing could prove to be very important now that Youk is going to be covering third.
Nice to see some runs scored tonight. Hopefully the bats stay alive for the Yankee series.

He pitched well last year so I'll give him a chance to settle in. Plus Timlin is due back so Delcarmen can go back into the specialist role. If he still sucks. bring Devern Hansack back up. That kid has some good stuff.

Delcarmen is quickly turning into our version of Kyle Farnsworth.
I've been holding Dan Duquette in an hermetically sealed plexiglass box, 12' under the ground, on the banks of the Hudson River since October 2001..
This morning, for the first time since the day I sentenced him, I was gonna let him look me in the eye and allow him to speak..I wanted to know what damaging info he had on Seattle's Woody Woodward..I was figuring, if he could get Tek and D Lowe for the for that fucking arsonist of a pitcher, Heathcliff Sloucumb, Theo could unload Manny Delhomerun and JD Drew for KKKing Felix and Ichiro..
So anyway, just as I was pulling the bloody sock out of Douchequette's mouth, He tried to bite me..Can you belive this little mother fucker..Where's the gratitude? I've been feeding this prick every 21days ( 21 in honor of you know who) like clock work..I mean, I know the beans are baked and the chowder's clammed but show some fucking appreciation..
Long story short..I now have two sets of vocal chords and he has none..I did leave him a baseball and some and a pair of those green "lefty" scissors so he could try and stitch his wind pipe back into his throat..I added 15 years to the duke's sentence for attempted escape and other assorted crimes against his captor..Fuck it..I'm giving him another 10 years for embarrassing the Nation in general..21 more for each Cy Young Roger won in Toronto..Another 10 years for clogging up Theo's office toilet in '97..And that Kerrigan bull shit just cost him 10 more..5 for Joe and 5 Nancy looks like Seabiscuit..Hey Nancy, Why the long face?

Great game. Full of suspense. Happy ending after a long tale.
Was everyone fucked by FOX like I was?
After standing by them after all that rain delay, Papelbon finally does what he came to do;
Get his fourth and final out and save Beckett's win,,,
2 outs, 2 strikes.... possibly the final pitch....suspense..... suspense,,,,,,,,
Just as Pap begins his wind up, FOX switches over to Nascar, and after a few seconds,
says, "You can catch the remainder of the Red Sox game over on fx".
REMAINDER??!! Its (what turned out to be) the FINAL PITCH of a nailbiter!!!!!
By the time I even found fx, the sox had already won.
RIDICULOUS!
Is the start of a car race really all that important to see?
Especially over the grand finale of a program youve been broadcasting for 6 hours!!??
Even worse, the sports lady even apologized... to FX... that they interrupted Terminator 3 to show the ending of the game. No apology to those of us who missed it.

Was everyone fucked by FOX like I was?

I was fucked too at my bar. I'm a Sox fan and my buddy the bartender is a Yankees fan so we were both stressing out for that last at bat. By the time he was able to find FX on the satellite, the game was over.

ortiz gets the night off, i think its a bad call, if he played and went 2/4 or so against the yankees then its a huge boost to help end this thing, and if did go 0'fer its really not any worse.
not a big deal either way but i think he should have played tonight and then got a break if need be.

Great theory, Epschtein.
or...
Way to raise the barr, epschtein.
Blah..I'll come up with something after I sign off. But anyway... turns out it was a safe call; Ortiz definitely needed a mental health day, and a yankee game is a good day to take off if youre feeling the pressure. How great is it to still have Crisp around to fill in here and there?!
And Casey!! God knows why we have a great infielder like him laying around at the start of the season, but man are we lucky we did! Happy accidents indeed.
And Fox actually wrote me back! Granted, it was a form email, but the fact they had one shows they got alot of complaints. As long as they know they fucked up.

I have gotten so I dont second guess Tito anymore. I heard on Buck Martinez on XM Baseball This Morning say last week that Oriz's knees were bothering him when he was in Toronto last weekend so maybe that factored in some.
That was a really ugly win tonight. Dice K is really living on the edge these days with his control issues, but the way all the pitchers performed tonight maybe it was the cold weather. It looked cold as balls there on TV.

Schilling laughs off Yankee talk (http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2008/04/schilling_on_ya.html)
Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling reiterated this morning his previous assertion that he would not consider pitching for the Yankees next season, despite comments to the contrary from his personal doctor.
"[Schilling] called me when he was angry about a month ago and was having recurrent pain, and said 'Listen, I want to pitch again next year,' and [would consider] the possibility of the [Yankees] option," Dr. Craig Morgan told Boston sports radio station WEEI 850 AM this morning. "He didn't say he was going to do it, he didn't do any of that. I think it was in part of anger."
Schilling laughed off that assertion in a follow-up interview later in the morning on WEEI.
"Me wearing pinstripes, regardless of what point of the season or my career it would have been, is not an option," said Schilling, who is currently on the 60-day disabled list with a biceps/right shoulder injury. "I can't ... think back to having that conversation specifically … it's not an option. Never has been an option."

Pfffft. You should have been there last night. Sox fans used to take a ton of crap when they went to Yankee stadium. Now they just wear their jerseys with the World Series patch(s) on the sleeve. One drunk Yankee fan was screaming "1918" and "86 years" at a Sox fan, and he just pointed at the patch on his jersey. Game over.
There were also a lot of "Boston Sucks" chants coming from the crowd. All of a sudden Yankee fans are starting to sound like Boston fans used to. I'm sitting there thinking "No silly, they're the World champs. You can yell about how they suck all night, and they're still the World champs". People used to do that to the Yanks all the time in the late 90's and it sounded just as stupid back then.

If there is one thing that should have stung last night, it's the way Ortiz is swinging the bat. I heard Joe Castiglione saying that the knee is fine, but I'm not sure I believe it. He doesn't seem to be generating any power and he's missing pitches he used to crush. He looks like Giambi did when he had the bad knee. If he has a chronic bad knee, its very tough to hit with an injury like that. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if this is just an early season slump or if its something more.
Another thing is the fact that your middle relief looks very shaky while ours held up pretty well. I mean Mike Timlin? What is he, 42? If the Yanks have an edge this year, it could be their bullpen is deeper and they'll have more chances to make comebacks. Even at 15-9 I never think Yankee-RedSox games are ever over, but last night it was. The Red Sox bullpen looks like the Yankee bullpen did last year. 8th and 9th are nailed down, the rest is an adventure.
Any plans to bring up Masterson as a reliever?
ChrisTheCop
04-17-2008, 03:32 PM
The broadcasters last night made a good point about Ortiz.
His stance is back and the knee looks fine.
But it seems he's not seeing the ball like he used to.
It may be an optical problem, ala Charlie Sheen.

The thing I hate most is the arrogance these young, bandwagon-jumping Sox fans are starting to have. They're acting like the arrogant Yankee assholes that tormented us in the past.

I suspect Alex Cora would be gone before Lugo. Lugo's always had a great glove and (fingers crossed) he's hitting much better this year.
Cash is handling the knuckler pretty well and he's settled in nicely to Doug Mirabelli's role as a low .200 hitter.
Only Wake can get shelled for 5 early on and still get the win. Reminds me of that game back in 2004 where he gave up 6 homers and yet the Sox managed to win.

apparently, there's been a flu going around the clubhouse,
and the stiff neck is sort of an after effect of that flu which Becket suffered over the past few days. He'll be fine for his next scheduled start.

Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo-from MLB trade rumors (http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2008/04/cafardos-latest.html)
Scott Boras is the spur in Manny Ramirez's side. Cafardo interviews the Notorious One in the Boston Globe today. Says Boras, "Our plan for him is in place. If you can make a player comfortable, you have the ability to make a player play well." So far, so good. He doesn't speculate on the reality of a contract extension saying, "I communicate with [Theo Epstein] on a number of things and I really let the decision-making be theirs. It's rare if they haven't thought about what their future plans are for a player."
Only Boras would try to pull shit like this. They have a contract, Theo will either exercise the (very pricey) 20 mil option or not. Plus I think there's another option for the same amount next year. To try to weasel this into a long term extension is classic Boras. What a douche bag.
Theo would have to be an absolute idiot to do an extension for a 36 year old player that he controls for the next 2 years.

My thoughts exactly. He gave up only 3 hits but just one of them was enough to do the damage. The bats let him down -- they had guys in scoring position a number of times.
2 hits today? They're going to get swept by Rays. Jesus.

Halladay has four straight complete games and the Jays have managed to lose THREE OF THEM!!?! I have an idea, for a team with little money to waste, let's not fucking just RELEASE a great outfielder with speed and acts as a sparkplug to the offense. Or perhaps not pay 10 MILLION for a guy to play on another team! I'm soooo fucking pissed right now. The Jays will make ANY pitching staff look amazing, while great pitching for their team goes to waste!

wrong thread?
theyre'll be no praisin of yankers here.
I just want to apologize that in the ninth inning, I secretly hoped that the twins would win...
My opponent in fantasy has papelbon, and although I had lester, I didnt really need the win; I need to stay ahead in saves.
Now, In the 8th, I was hoping that theyd let hideki (my player) get the save since he was killing them, and papelbon mightve still been shaken up from the previous night). But once papelbon came in, I 'allowed' the sox to lose.
I apologize, but if it's any consolation, it helped; I'm still ahead in my league, as are the Red Sox, God bless em.

He usually does well in domes but in the case of the Metrodome, I think those huge fans that circulate air to keep the roof up played havoc with the knuckleball.
Of course, leaving men in scoring position early on and those cheap solo shots they gave up didn't help either.

Finally, another thing I can agree on with Mojo.
I dont understand the announcers, and it's most of them except the locals on radio and tv, who say Manny's not a good fielder. Has he made mistakes? Yes... But no one plays off the Green Monster better, and he's got the best arm in our outfield right now. Batters know not to run on Manny. So, although it may haver been true at one point, announcers should stop the smack talk on his fielding abilities.
*If Dice-K loses tomorrow, I say it's time to bury a jersey somewhere.
