So since Sunday night at 9pm, the alarm in the house behind mine has been going off.
It blasts a siren for about 15 seconds, then says "BURGLARY, BURGLARY. YOU HAVE VIOLATED AN AREA THAT IS PROTECTED BY A SECURITY SYSTEM!!!" Then it's back to the siren.

The house is vacant and being remodeled. The police, who I have called 4-5 times, say unless there is he sign of forced entry, they can do nothing.

So the Alarm continued...... 911 Says I am the only person who has called about it. (Which worries me.... what if there was a real emergency? Would the neighbors just ignore it?) (The answer is yes... Assholes!)

When I asked what I would do if the neighbors went on vacation for a month and the alarm continues.... The answer the cops gave me did not elicit any hope....

I can't sleep.... But the rules of society dictate that I shouldn't break into a house to turn off an alarm.... But this shit is crazy... 25 Hours and counting......

What do I do????.

At least its not a robot with flailing arms telling you you're in danger.

its funny, because my smoke detector's battery is running low, and its beeping every 90 seconds or so...so instead of changing it, I wrapped it in a towel and stuck it under my couch cushion. I'm just too lazy to change the batteries tonight....

anyway, I can still hear its faint cry from under the cushion, and reading your title, I thought u could hear it too.

like some kind of cyber tell tale heart.

See if you can find out what alarm company they use. Call the company and explain the situation. Maybe the company can work something out with the police.

Do they have a sign indicating what security system they use? Probably useless, but you could try calling that company.

Is it actively being remodeled or is it just sitting there vacant?

Not surprised about your neighbors. People are so isolated and self-interested anymore.

Smoke detectors are inexpensive these days. Take a fucking hammer to it, Cheapy McCheaperson.

This type of behavior doesn't help us try to deal with these cop haters.

I looked this afternoon and didn't see a sign or sticker on the window indicating a company....

I think that they have the system in the house but don't pay for the monitoring service anymore....

So we get the alarm, but no "Are you ok?" Call; nor any contact with police....

They are renovating, so for all I know, a ladder fell over, tripped a motion sensor and it won't get shut off until the next time the crew shows up.... (Obviously they don't work mondays..)

"Accidentally", run your car into the pole that supplies power to their house.

i got it!

wrap the house next door in a giant towel and put it under your sofa cushion...

at least until the company can come and fix it.

by the way, i dunno why but the thread title also reminds me of this line from seinfeld:

Maybe you can find out who the contractor doing the work is and complain to them.

Had a similar situation with what I thought was a car alarm but turned out that the person had The Club and it shifted so that it was causing the horn to honk non-stop. This was on a Sunday night in the summer so we had the windows open. Repeated calls to the police did no good so at about 2:00 AM I was thinking of going down and trying to pop the hood to disconnect the battery. Just as I was heading out my front door I heard a crash and looked to see my next door neighbor with a hammer taking out the window and moving The Club.

The next morning I saw the owner approach the car and when she saw the broken window she looked pissed. But I told her it could have been worse because her f-ing horn was honking for most of the night.

Get some bolt cutters and take out the power line going into the house!

Snip that bitch!

my 'rents had a similiar situation.
the house next door was vacant, and had a water pipe burst that was under the porch.
they were told (by police) that there was nothing that could have been done until the owner of the house was contacted (the owner died a month ago, and the house was left to a daughter who was on vacation).
so dad and bro forced their way into the porch, pulled up some of the floorboards, and somehow cut the pipe and soldered on an endcap.

the finally got a hold of the owner's daughter and told her what they did.
she was cool with it and thankful.

the water was running for over a day (in jan, so it bascially formed a glacier)

if its being remodeled, there should be a contractor's permit on the window or door or something.
call town hall, and get the contractor's name/number.

Has anyone noticed that Dave's answers have been more retarded than normal.

1st: his explanation for not attending Lilly's party
2nd: no hods barred at sporting events.

If it's the burglar/ security alarm, the cops are aware already......

break in.... call it a freebee.

It will teach the stupid neighbours to get their shit straight for leaving without checking everything.

How did this post end up in this thread? I'm not one to bash a new member, but what a damned fool... I was rude and rude once, but I always understood what "off-topic" meant...

Just an update....
The Alarm finally was turned off or died out at about 9 am Tuesday....
The damned thing went off for around 38 hours....
I got no help from the police at all...
(No help with house alarms, but more than happy to hassle a million non-violent drug offenders....)

But anyway, Now I kinda miss that alarm. It added something new to this quiet, wonderbread, suburban neighborhood...

I had a feeling this might happen.
You may want to keep one or all of these near your bed tonight til you get used to the silence:

Take shelter, dangerous weather (http://www.cod.edu/public_safety/Alarm%20Severe%20Weather.asx)

Fire alarm (http://www.cod.edu/public_safety/Alarm%20Fire%20Message.asx)
